Here are 20 hospitals and health systems built around that approach. Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is an early adopter of advanced health IT, pioneering AI in diagnostics and machine learning tools. For instance, a BIDMC- led randomized trial found that physicians using a large language model made management decisions with a lower rate of potential harm than those without one. In addition, this spring the medical center became the first in the nation to provide patients with access to a tool that blends AI with routine mammograms to detect a patient's future risk of breast cancer. e hospital also built one of the first hospital-based technology testing centers, the Health Technology Exploration Center, with partners including Amazon, Google and Microso. Boston Children's Hospital (Boston). Boston Children's Hospital deeply integrates AI into its care practices, creates standardized tools that enable IT systems and data interoperability, and launches advanced digital health platforms. Its virtual nursing pilot launched in the hospital's largest inpatient medical unit in 2022 to meet growing demands, and has since expanded. Boston Children's was among the first to launch a ChatGPT-style platform hospitalwide, and was one of 16 founding members of Microso's "Trustworthy and Responsible AI Network" in 2024. In July 2026, Boston Children's Hospital and OpenEvidence, the leading AI-powered clinical decision support platform, shared that they have entered a multi-year partnership aimed at investigating the ways that clinicians' practical, point-of-care AI usage impacts care delivery. Boston Medical Center. With its home-acute care technology, mobile facility integrations and data-driven infrastructure, Boston Medical Center is continuously increasing its smart capabilities. e hospital uses an AI-powered discharge planning platform directly inside its EHR, creating early discharge plans, adding bed capacity and saving staff hours. Boston Medical Center launched a hospital-at-home program in April 2024 covering 245 diagnoses, monitored through a 24/7 command center, and framed explicitly as a way to extend acute care to its safety- net population. Also in 2024, the hospital also piloted a machine learning platform in partnership with a data science firm, embedding social and environmental data with clinical records to pinpoint and lessen racial disparities in patient outcomes. Brigham and Women's Hospital (Boston). Brigham and Women's Hospital is pushing the boundaries of patient care with innovations like machine learning for diagnostics, cutting-edge imaging tech and home-hospital monitoring. In 2019, the hospital entered a $50 million, 10-year AI research collaboration with IBM Watson Health, shared with Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center. e projects spawned from this collaboration focus primarily on patient safety and clinical workflow. e hospital has taken on AI-driven precision medicine projects, harnessing machine learning to combat issues like Clostridioides difficile bacterium. Brigham and Women's also co- developed its home hospital program with a global technology company, using wearable biosensors and AI analytics to monitor acute patients remotely. Additionally, it has deployed ambient AI documentation across its clinicians, a rollout linked to a 21.2% reduction in reported burnout aer 84 days of use. Brigham and Women's also worked on an MRI-guided robotic device for deep brain stimulation placement and on the AI-driven "Radiology Operations Module," meant to predict missed care opportunities. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles). Cedars-Sinai Medical Center enhances patient care, lessens clinical overwhelm and optimizes clinical workflows by employing novel AI tools, real-time data analytics and digital-first platforms. e medical center built Cedars-Sinai Connect, an AI-powered virtual care platform developed with K Health that streamlines intake and makes care more convenient. Cedars-Sinai also piloted a voice-assisted nursing documentation tool and, in 2026, gave clinicians enterprise access to OpenEvidence, which links real medical literature to a patient's own EHR data. Cedars-Sinai also works to evaluate and monitor its own growing library of AI tools, ensuring continuous safety and regulation across the lifecycle of each AI solution they implement. Cleveland Clinic. Cleveland Clinic's smart hospital operations run on a multi-year partnership with Palantir, whose platform powers a virtual command center that forecasts patient census, staffing and bed availability in real time. e health system credits the tool with a 7.6% increase in patient transfers to its main campus and a 40% cut in unused orthopedic operating room time. Cleveland Clinic has paired that operational backbone with clinical AI, including an ambient documentation rollout and a model that reads a full day of electroencephalogram data in mere seconds for its neurological ICU. e system also announced a global AI-based healthcare delivery platform with Oracle and G42 in May 2025, with the goal of making patient care and public health management better through AI, data analytics and intelligent clinical applications. Hospital for Special Surgery (New York City). Hospital for Special Surgery hired its first chief digital and technology officer in 2024, now leading an emerging-technologies committee that evaluates AI, robotics and surgical-navigation vendors. e hospital also runs an Innovation Center for AI in Robotic Joint Replacement, feeding data-driven recommendations into robotic systems for knee and hip. In July 2025, HSS deployed an ambient AI documentation platform enterprisewide across roughly 200,000 patients a year, customized to capture orthopedic-specific details such as imaging findings and laterality.
