24 TRANSACTIONS Ascension's $375M sale of 9 hospitals, 2 ASCs approved By Patsy Newitt T he Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board has approved a landmark transaction for Ascension to sell nine hospitals and two ASCs to Prime Healthcare for $375 million. Here are five things to know: 1. e deal requires final approval from the Archdiocese of Chicago since St. Louis-based Ascension is a Catholic health system. 2. is acquisition would mark Prime Healthcare's entry into Illinois, adding nine hospitals to its portfolio and bringing its total to 53 facilities across the U.S. 3. Prime has called this the largest acquisition in its history. n Optum's SCA Health acquires OrthoAlliance By Patsy Newitt D eerfield, Ill.-based SCA Health, Optum's ASC arm, has acquired OrthoAlliance, a spokesperson for the orthopedic management services organization confirmed to Becker's. Private equity-backed, Sharonville, Ohio-based OrthoAlliance, which has partnered with more than 200 physicians across all orthopedics and sports medicine specialties, joined SCA Health on Nov. 1. "Since our founding in 2019, we have focused on providing instant access to high-quality, value-based care throughout Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky," the spokesperson said. "As part of SCA Health, OrthoAlliance will continue to focus on improving the health of the patients we serve." OrthoAlliance was founded in partnership with Midwest physician practices and Revelstoke Capital Partners, a Denver-based private equity firm. SCA Health also quietly purchased at least two cardiovascular providers in 2023 — National Cardiovascular Partners and Pivotal Healthcare. n HCA's massive workforce in 5 numbers By Patsy Newitt Here are five key stats to know about Nashville, Tenn.- based HCA Healthcare's workforce: 1. In 2023, HCA had more than 45,000 active and affiliated physicians in its portfolio. 2. The company also has 99,000+ registered nurses. 3. In total, the company has more than 300,000 employees. 4. The healthcare giant consists of 184 hospitals and more than 2,000 care sites, including 124 ASCs. 5.
