In the last 5 years,* primarily due to economic factors, the number of drug shortages
has increased. In 2023, over 90% of sterile injectable products were at severe risk for
shortages. Product discontinuations increased by 40% from 2022 to 2023, and the
duration of shortages increased by 50%.
