6 ASC MANAGEMENT ASC specialties with the highest 5-year pay jumps By Patsy Newitt G eneral surgery is the ASC specialty that saw the highest pay jump between 2019 and 2023, according to the Medical Group Management Association's "Provider Compensation and Productivity Data Report" released May 28. e report included 2023 data from more than 211,000 physicians and advanced practice providers. Here's how 10 ASC specialties' pay changed from 2019 to 2023: 1. General surgery: 13.6% 2. Urology: 13.57% 3. Orthopedic surgery: 12.4% 4. Gastroenterology: 12.2% 5. Invasive interventional cardiology: 12% 6. Invasive cardiology: 11.6% 7. ENT: 10.97% 8. Noninvasive cardiology: 10.67% 9. OB-GYN: 9.35% 10. Ophthalmology: 8.84% n Missouri system passes on ASC plans By Claire Wallace H annibal (Mo.) Regional Healthcare Systems has scrapped plans for an ASC in Kirksville, Mo., according to a May 23 report from CBS affiliate KTVO. In 2022, the Kirksville City Council zoned 170 acres of land for an ASC, but upon receiving community feedback, Hannibal Regional decided to shi its plans. e health system will instead build a cancer care center — something the town of Kirksville has not had since 2020. e health system is still considering adding an ASC in Kirksville eventually, but if actioned, the project will happen further down the road, according to the report. n The 3 states with the most top-ranked ASCs By Claire Wallace U .S. News & World Report has released its inaugural list of the top ASCs in the nation, recognizing hundreds of facilities across four categories, including urology, orthopedics, gastroenterology and ophthalmology. Currently, California, Florida and Texas, which have high population densities, have more ASCs than any other state in the nation. In addition, those three states also have the most top-ranked facilities per U.S. News. Across the four lists, California has 95 recognized ASCs, Florida has 60 recognized ASCs and Texas has 49. n Summit Surgery Center partners with Regent Surgical for orthopedic care By Carly Behm Troy, Mich.-based Summit Surgery Center is partnering with Regent Surgical to bolster access to orthopedic care. The ASC will use Regent Surgical's care platform under the partnership, according to a May 16 news release shared with Becker's. Regent's independent partnerships help physicians develop surgery centers that offer more control over the surgical environment and ancillary income, according to its website. Summit Surgery Center has four operating rooms and private patient care suites. It focuses on complex orthopedic and spine procedures. "Partnering with a leading platform such as Regent Surgical will continue to provide us growth avenues and will empower our team at Summit, as well as those we serve, enhancing the surgical experience and improving patient outcomes," Summit Surgery Center's founder John Samani, MD, said in the release. n
