WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP 53 The physician gender pay gap: 6 new findings By Kelly Gooch On average, a male physician practicing full-time in the U.S. earned about 29% more than a female counterpart in 2023. e finding is from Medscape's "2024 Physician Compensation Report," released April 12, which examined survey responses from 7,000 physicians across more than 29 specialties between Oct. 2 and Jan. 16. Here are five other findings from the report: 1. Among all physicians, women made $309,000 last year compared to $400,000 for men. 2. Among primary care physicians, women made $253,000 last year compared to $295,000 for men. 3. Among specialists, women made $333,000 last year compared to $435,000 for men. 4. e primary care physician pay gap favored men by about 17% in 2023, down from 19% in 2022. Medscape attributed this to compensation reported by female primary care physicians increasing at double the rate of their male counterparts'. 5. On average, male specialists outearned women by about 31% in 2023 compared to 27% in 2022. n Mount Carmel Health System names new president, CEO By Madeline Ashley C olumbus, Ohio-based Mount Carmel Health System, part of Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health, named Tauana McDonald president and CEO, effective July 1. Ms. McDonald will succeed Lorraine Lutton who shared plans to retire last December. Ms. McDonald will be the first African American woman to hold this role in central Ohio and the first to lead the health system, according to a May 9 news release shared with Becker's. Prior to her new role, Ms. McDonald served as president and COO of Mount Carmel Grove City (Ohio). Mount Carmel Health System comprises four hospitals: Columbus, Ohio-based Mount Carmel East, Mount Carmel Grove City, Mount Carmel New Albany (Ohio), Westerville, Ohio-based Mount Carmel St. Ann's, and the Diley Ridge Medical Center in Canal Winchester, Ohio. e health system has more than 9,000 employees, 2,300 physicians, and 550 volunteers, according to the release. n HCA hospital taps 1st female CEO By Kelly Gooch T ammy Razmic was selected as the new CEO of StoneSprings Hospital Center in Sterling, Va., part of Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare. Ms. Razmic will serve as the hospital's first female CEO, ef- fective May 20, according to a May 9 hospital news release. She joins StoneSprings from HCA Florida Memorial Hos- pital in Jacksonville, where she served as COO, according to the release. She also previously was COO of Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) Medical Center. n
