26 TRANSACTIONS AmSurg to buy Envision's ASCs By Carly Behm Following plans to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Envision Healthcare reached a restructuring agreement with its stakeholders. Under the agreement, AmSurg and Envision Physician Services will be separately owned by their lenders, Envision said in a May 15 news release. AmSurg will buy ASCs held by Envision for $300 million plus a waiver of loans. Envision's debt — excluding a revolving credit facility for working capital — will be equitized or canceled. Pending approval, Envision will use cash collateral to fund operating expenses during restructuring. Envision plans to file for bankruptcy after battling high labor costs and has about $7 billion of debt. n New Jersey surgery center sold for $3.7M By Riz Hatton A surgical company acquired a surgery center in Hackensack, N.J., for $3.7 million, roi-nj.com reported June 13. Zimmel Associates, a real estate agency, represented the surgical company. The building is four stories and 15,300 square feet. The surgical company will occupy 11,500 square feet, while the remaining 3,800 square feet will be leased. n Good news for ASCs? What UnitedHealth, Humana said about rising medical costs By Patsy Newitt R ecent comments from UnitedHealth and Humana suggest medical costs could rise from delayed elective surgeries, which could be good news for ASCs, ALM Benefits Pro reported June 20. UnitedHealth is seeing more patients seek behavioral healthcare and joint replacements, CFO John Rex said at a recent conference. The amount of revenue spent in the second quarter may be above expectations, he said, according to the report. Humana also warned of a jump in medical costs due to a demand for surgeries. According to the report, this could be due to patients returning for knee or hip surgeries after putting off nonemergent procedures during the COVID-19 pandemic. If this situation materializes, it could be "good news for hospitals and surgery-center operators like Tenet and Surgery Partners," the report said. n ValueHealth strikes joint venture to develop Florida ASC By Claire Wallace K ansas City-based ValueHealth has partnered with Naples, Fla.-based NCH Healthcare System to develop a 12,000-square-foot ASC in Naples on the NCH Baker Hospital campus. Muve Orthopedics will provide orthopedic and spine services for the ASC, which will feature recovery-focused on-site suites. The multispecialty center will also provide bariatrics, general surgery, urology and robotic surgery options, according to a June 7 press release. The Muve Orthopedics program will provide pre-, peri- and post-procedure care. ValueHealth uses data-driven protocols to provide value- based care, according to the release. n
