11 CEO / STRATEGY St. Luke Hospital CEO resigns By Erica Carbajal T he CEO of St. Luke Hospital and Living Center in Marion, Kan., resigned during a May 2 board meeting, a hospital official confirmed to Becker's. Jeremy Ensey will remain in the role through late July, a hospital official said in a May 8 email. While announcing his plans to step down, Mr. Ensey said he had been thinking about doing so over the past six months. The hospital board made a motion to accept his resignation during the meeting, according to the Hillsboro Free Press. "It's been tiring. So [my wife] and I have talked about it, especially the last six months if I was going to do something else. I don't know what that something else is. All I know is healthcare. All I know, my adult life anyway, is healthcare. But I just felt God leading me a different direction," Mr. Ensey said, according to the news outlet. His resignation comes after a series of issues between the hospital's board and one of the local pharmacies the hospital works with as part of the 340B program, the Hillsboro Free Press reported. St. Luke is a 10-bed critical access hospital and 32-bed nursing home. n Georgia hospital lays off CEO, 3 other top-paid execs By Alan Condon F our of Habersham Medical Center's top executives have been laid off as part of cost-cutting measures before it joins Gainesville-based Northeast Georgia Health System on July 1, nowhaberbasham.com reported April 27. Effective April 28, the Hospital Authority of Habersham County voted to get rid of Tyler Williams, president and CEO; Angie Harpold, COO and vice president of operations; Kesha Clinkscale, vice president of culture and wellness; and Susan McCrary, director of finance. "We thank Tyler, Angie, Kesha and Susan for their service to our community, especially in light of the recent pandemic on top of difficult financial circumstances they inherited," Habersham County Hospital Authority Chair Dolly Ritchie said in a news release. "This was a difficult decision for us to make on a personal level, but it is the duty of our board to be the best stewards of HMC's finances." Beginning May 1, Kevin Matson, Northeast Georgia Health System's vice president of facilities and support services, will serve as interim administrator for Habersham Medical Center in Demorest, Ga., according to the report. He will oversee day-to-day operations and will spend most of his time in Habersham County. n 11 highest paid CEOs in healthcare By Molly Gamble P harmaceutical and health insurance CEOs were among the highest-paid executives of the largest U.S. companies in 2022, according to Equilar. Each year, Equilar ranks the 100 top-paid CEOs of America's largest companies by revenue based on the proxy statements they file by March 31. Many of the companies in the Equilar 100 are consistent year to year, although the list is not the same each year due to changes in revenue and floating filing dates. Overall, median CEO pay reached $22.3 million in 2022 — a 7.7 percent increase among the same companies from 2021. All pay components increased except for cash bonuses, the median value of which decreased by 5.9 percent. e CEO-to- worker pay ratio reached 288:1 on the Equilar 100 compared to the ratio of 254:1 one year prior. e highest-paid executive on the Equilar 100 is Barry McCarthy, president and CEO of Peloton, who was awarded over $168 million in 2022.
