17 GASTROENTEROLOGY Where gastroenterology falls on the list of highest- earning specialties By Riz Hatton T he average salary for gastroenterologists is $501,000, according to Medscape's "Physician Compensation Report" for 2023. In the report, released April 14, Medscape surveyed 10,011 physicians across more than 29 specialties about their income, work hours, job satisfaction and more from Oct. 7, 2022, to Jan. 17, 2023. Here are the 10 highest-earning specialties: 1. Plastic surgery: $619,000 2. Orthopedics: $573,000 3. Cardiology: $507,000 4. Urology: $506,000 5. Gastroenterology: $501,000 6. Otolaryngology: $485,000 7. Radiology: $483,000 8. Oncology: $463,000 9. Anesthesiology: $448,000 10. Dermatology: $443,000 n GI Alliance partners with St. Louis practice By Amelia Ickes G astroenterology management organization GI Alliance has partnered with St. Louis-based Specialists in Gastroenterology. SIG currently employs six physicians and four advanced practice providers, according to a May 11 news release. e physicians include Leonard Weinstock, MD, Aman Singh, MD, Erik yssen, MD, Nikhil Banerjee, MD, Steve Fern, DO, and Benjamin Root, MD. is partnership will include the Advanced Endoscopy Center, in- house infusion and ASC anesthesia services, in addition to the clinical practice. SIG will join the nearly 800 practices already partnered with GI Alliance across Texas, Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Utah, Washington and Connecticut. n Digital health company adds two GI specialists to medical advisory board By Amelia Ickes D igital digestive healthcare company Vivante has added two gastroenterology specialists to its medical advisory board. Chin Hur, MD, currently serves as the director of healthcare innovations and research and the Herbert and Florence Irving professor of medicine and epidemiology at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City, according to a May 8 news release. Uri Ladabaum, MD, is a professor of medicine in gastroenterology and hepatology and director of the gastrointestinal cancer prevention program at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, Calif. Dr. Hur is an expert in the prevention of gastrointestinal cancers whose research focuses on esophageal, gastric and pancreatic disease. Meanwhile, Dr. Ladabaum is an expert on colorectal cancer screening and its economic impact and cost effectiveness. n One GI partners with Gastroenterology Associates of Tidewater By Claire Wallace M anagement services organization One GI has partnered with Gastroenterology Associates of Tidewater in Chesapeake, Va., furthering its reach in the state. Gastroenterology Associates has been serving patients at its Chesapeake and Virginia Beach locations since the late 1970s, with more than 10 providers. One GI will help Gastroenterology Associates to recruit high-quality providers, enhance service lines and accelerate expansion, according to a May 9 press release. One GI, founded in 2020, offers finance, accounting, revenue enhancement, legal, benchmarking, development, human resources, technology and marketing services to its partner practices. Physician Growth Partners of Chicago represented Gastroenterology Associates in the transaction. This is the second gastro practice deal PGP has advised in 2023. n
