Capital Number of physicians: 21 n Iterative Health to debut AI polyp detection tool for colonoscopies By Claire Wallace G astroenterology medicine company Iterative Health has partnered with software provider Provation to develop Skout, an artificial-intelligence polyp detection solution for use in colonoscopies. Skout will be available commercially in the second quarter of 2023, according to a May 4 press release. While colonoscopy adenoma detection rates are between 7 and 53 percent among endoscopists, AI polyp detection solutions like Medtronic's GI Genius can increase detection rates by 14.4 percent. In a randomized trial, Skout showed a 27 percent increase in adenoma detection, according to the release. n GI Alliance strikes partnership with ASGE By Claire Wallace M anagement services company GI Alliance has partnered with the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, becoming its first group member, to advance the practice of gastroenterology. All providers of GI Alliance, including 785 physicians and 851 advanced practice providers, will now be considered ASGE members, according to a May 2 news release. ASGE benefits include education and training, resources and practical operational solutions. GI Alliance will play a role in supporting the ASGE's push for operational and cost efficiencies with insurance companies and regulators, the release said. n Geisinger taps new chair of gastroenterology By Riz Hatton Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger has named Amitpal Johal, MD, the health system's chair of gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition weight management. Dr. Johal began his career at Geisinger in 2006 and has more than 17 years of experience, according to an April 25 news release from the health system. In his new role, Dr. Johal will collaborate with clinical and operational leaders throughout the health system to provide patient care, train the next generation of physicians, and promote education and research. n
