20 GASTROENTEROLOGY 244,300 patients potentially affected in colonoscopy prep retail site data breach By Riz Hatton C aptify Health, a colonoscopy prep-focused management services company, notified about 244,300 patients that their personal information may have been compromised during a data breach of the company's colonoscopy prep retail site, Bank Info Security reported Jan. 9. Captify Health's online retail service Your Patient Advisor suffered a malicious code incident from May 26, 2019, to April 20, 2022, according to a company breach notification filed with Maine's attorney general. e company said it was notified of fraudulent consumer credit card use regarding its payment card environment in March 2021, Bank Info Security reported. Aer an investigation, Captify Health determined Oct. 13 a breach occurred. Potentially compromised information includes patients' full names, addresses, payment card numbers, expiration dates and payment card security codes. e company began notifying patients of the breach Dec. 16. n University Gastroenterology taps Dr. Eric Newton as president By Claire Wallace R hode Island's largest gastroenterology group, University Gastroenterology, has named Eric Newton, MD, as its next president, according to a Jan. 19 press release sent to Becker's. Dr. Newton has been a gastroenterologist at UGI for over 13 years. He will take over for current president Eric Berthiaume, MD, who has been in the role for four years. Dr. Newton plans to focus on several key initiatives as president, including increasing infusion center capacity, incorporating new artificial intelligence, expanding UGI's inflammatory bowel disease department, growing UGI's clinical trial capacity and collaborating with primary care colleagues. "I am not looking to drastically change course from the remarkable work of my predecessors, but rather I hope to guide the practice as it strives to fulfill its mission of providing people in our ever-expanding community with the best comprehensive GI care possible," Dr. Newton said in the release. n Cleveland hospital 1st in Midwest to perform awake pediatric endoscopy with EvoEndo system By Paige Haeffele C leveland-based UH Rainbow Babies and Children's is the first facility in the Midwest to complete an awake pediatric endoscopy using the EvoEndo system. The EvoEndo Gastroscope is a single-use device that can be inserted orally or transnasally, allowing patients ages 5 and older to undergo endoscopic procedures without anesthesia or sedation, according to a Jan. 24 news release from the hospital.
