80 GASTROENTEROLOGY Tips for early career gastroenterologists, per 1 GI By Riz Hatton A little patience can go a long way when jump-starting a gastroenterology career. Michael Monzel, MD, a gastroenterologist at HCA Florida Palm Beach Gastroenterology in Loxahatchee, spoke with Becker's July 14 to give advice to early career gastroenterologists. Editor's note: Responses have been edited lightly for length and clarity. Question: What advice would you give to gastroenterologists just starting out in their career? Dr. Michael Monzel: One of the things I find with some of the individuals just starting in practice now is that there may be a lack of patience and a sense that things aren't going to wrap up to being necessarily very busy or as busy as you want them to be in the first six to 12 months you're at a practice. Be patient [because] it is going to take a few years. e volume will come, assuming that the product you're providing is quality and not bad. It's just a matter of being patient to some degree. Be vocal and ask questions to senior members of the practice, especially if you feel like you're being abused in some way in terms of not being treated as an equal person in the practice or being asked to do more work than you feel like you should be doing. n United Digestive consolidates operating systems for partner practices By Riz Hatton U nited Digestive, a gastroenterology-focused practice management company, is now consolidating operating systems for its partner practices. The effort, called Project United, ensures that every partner practice can benefit from a common suite of technology platforms. The platforms include a single electronic health record, a practice management system, a human resources information system and revenue cycle management, according to an Aug. 10 United Digestive news release. "Streamlining processes has been very beneficial, not only for our providers and team members, but for our patients as well," Neal Patel, MD, president of United Digestive, said in the news release. "From an improved patient experience via a common EHR, to ease of scheduling through the patient service/call center — it's a win across the board." United Digestive supports 21 ASCs and more than 200 providers in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina. n Gastroenterology Consultants PA to settle data breach class-action suit By Riz Hatton H ouston-based Gastroenterology Consultants PA has agreed to settle consumer claims that the practice failed to protect consumers from a data breach last year, Top Class Actions reported Aug. 11. The breach of the practice's computer systems took place around Jan. 10, 2021, according to the report. A class of those who were notified of the incident has been established, along with a subclass of those who were notified that their Social Security numbers were potentially compromised during the data breach, Top Class Actions reported. The settlement will provide class members who are eligible a cash payment of up to $500 to compensate them for out-of-pocket expenses as a result of the data breach. Gastroenterology Consultants admits no wrongdoing in response to the claims. n Motus GI back on NASDAQ By Claire Wallace Medical endoscopy solutions company Motus GI received formal notice that it can once again trade on the NASDAQ stock market aer falling below the minimum bid price requirement earlier this year, according to an Aug. 11 news release.
