26 PRACTICE MANAGEMENT US Orthopaedic Partners acquires 23-physician practice By Alan Condon H untsville, Alabama-based SportsMed Orthopedic Surgery & Spine Center is the latest practice to join U.S. Orthopaedic Partners, a private equity-backed management services organization. SportsMed has 23 physicians and operates its own imag- ing centers and physical and occupational therapy facili- ties. The acquisition means USOP now supports 89 physi- cians across 34 locations in Mississippi and Alabama. Sixty-three of those physicians are in Alabama, making USOP the largest network of orthopedists in the state, the company said in a May 23 news release. "We have experienced incredible growth since our incep- tion and are focused on expanding our services to satisfy increased patient demand while building out the full spec- trum of musculoskeletal services," said Graham Young, vice president of mergers and acquisition for USOP. "There is no secret to our rapid success over the last 18 months. Our physician partners seek to align with other like-mind- ed physicians." USOP has acquired eight orthopedic practices since its in- ception in October 2020. n Spine group expands presence in Florida Walmart locations By Carly Behm T he Back Space will launch two locations in the Orlando area in Florida following a pilot program for retail spine care. The Back Space, a franchise from Brentwood, Tenn.-based IMAC Holdings, provides chiropractic adjustments and other spine care services in some Walmart stores, accord- ing to an April 29 news release. Treatments start at $25. "The Sanford and Orlando store selections represent the start of our recently announced expansion plan" We have received robust interest from prospective franchisees throughout Florida and believe our customers will benefit from increased access to The Back Space spinal health and wellness care centers. Jeff Ervin, CEO of IMAC Holdings, said in the release. The retail spine chain plans to continue its growth with at least 20 more locations over the next year. n Maryland spine group adds Texas practice, now has more than 130 locations By Alan Condon R ockville, Md.-based National Spine & Pain Centers has added Dallas Pain Consultants to its portfolio, increasing its network to more than 130 locations in 13 states, according to a May 5 news release from National Spine & Pain Centers. Dallas Pain Consultants is a five-physician practice led by pain manage- ment specialists Trevor Kraus, MD, and Darren Schuhmacher, MD. e addition expands National Spine & Pain Centers's presence to 18 loca- tions in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area. "e addition of [Dallas Pain Consultants] and its world-class provid- ers ... will not only expand our footprint, it will also result in greater collaboration among physicians who specialize in minimally invasive spine and pain procedures," National Spine & Pain Centers President Douglas Badertscher said in the news release. Dr. Kraus said the partnership will provide his practice's physicians with "firsthand access to leading researchers, training on innovative treatments, and also enjoy world-class back-office support." National Spine & Pain Centers said it expects to see 1.2 million patients this year. n
