51 CIO / HEALTH IT HHS IDs 5 most prolific cybergangs targeting healthcare By Naomi Diaz T he majority of ransomware attacks on the healthcare and pub- lic health sector in the first quarter of 2022 were conducted by five ransomware-as-a-service groups, according to a May 5 HHS trend report. The five groups responsible for the attacks: 1. LockBit 2.0: On Feb. 7, HHS and the FBI released a joint alert warn- ing of the LockBit 2.0 ransomware group stating the group uses tech- niques such as purchased access, unpatched vulnerabilities, insider access and zero-day exploits. Despite claims from the group stating that it does not target the healthcare sector, the HHS found that it was responsible for 31 percent of attacks on the healthcare sector. 2. Conti: Conti ransomware, which is known for stealing files, encrypt- ing servers and demanding a ransom payment, was responsible for 31 percent of attacks on the healthcare sector. The State Department is currently offering a $10 million reward for information that will lead to the identification of key leaders of the group. 3. SunCrypt: SunCrypt, which is still "under development," according to the HHS, was responsible for 16 percent of attacks on the health- care sector. 4. Blackcat: BlackCat, also known as ALPHAV, was launched in No- vember 2021. According to HHS, Blackcat was responsible for 11 percent of attacks on the healthcare sector. The group is known for targeting large organizations and demanding ransom payments of several million dollars in Bitcoin or Monero. 5. Hive: Hive, which exfiltrates data and encrypts files held on a net- work, was responsible for an attack on Marietta, Ohio-based Memo- rial Health System that shutdown its IT network in August 2021. The HHS determined that the group was responsible for 11 percent of attacks on the healthcare sector. n EHR dissatisfaction linked to increased clinician resignation By Katie Adams B urnout and EHR dissatisfaction are key factors associated with clinicians' likeli- hood to leave their organization, accord- ing to KLAS research released April 12. KLAS surveyed 59,000 clinicians about how likely they are to leave their organizations in the next two years. The survey found that clini- cians who are very dissatisfied with their orga- nization's EHR are nearly three times as likely to leave compared to clinicians who are very satis- fied with their organization's EHR. The survey also found the percentage of clini- cians who strongly disagree that their organi- zation's ongoing EHR training is sufficient are twice as likely to leave compared to clinicians who strongly agree their training is adequate. Clinicians' satisfaction with their EHR vendor also plays a role in their decisions to leave. Thirty-two percent of clinicians who strongly disagree that their EHR vendor has designed a high quality EHR are likely to leave their orga- nization, while 12 percent who strongly agree their EHR vendor has designed a high quality EHR are likely to leave. One strategy to improve clinicians' EHR sat- isfaction is to reduce the amount of time they spend documenting outside their work hours. The researchers said EHR documentation effi- ciency can be improved by implementing per- sonalizations that are appropriate for individual clinicians' workflows. n The 25 most common passwords By Georgina Gonzalez W ith cybersecurity threats on the rise, having a safe and secure password is increasingly important to protecting your online presence. NordPass compiled a list of 25 passwords that are most commonly used. A group of independent researchers compiled the list using a 4TB database collecting data from 50 countries.
