72 GASTROENTEROLOGY 6 gastroenterology device companies to watch in 2022 By Patsy Newitt Here are six device gastroenterology companies that have made big moves in the last year: 1. Iterative Scopes is a gastroenterology-focused soft- ware company that designs artificial intelligence prod- ucts for endoscopies. In January, the company snagged $150 million in series B funding to develop its gastroen- terology technology. 2. Motus GI offers endoscopy devices treating gastroin- testinal issues. In February, the FDA granted the compa- ny market clearance for its second-generation Pure-Vu EVS system. 3. Fujifilm's medical imaging portfolio includes digital radiography, mammography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, endoscopy and endosurgery devices. In August, the company launched its Eluxeo 7000X system, and in December, its Tracmotion dissection device that streamlines the re- moval of potentially cancerous polyps. 4. Medtronic's endoscopy sector offers a portfolio to help improve care of chronic gastrointestinal diseases. In November, the company's PillCam Small Bowel 3 sys- tem for remote endoscopy procedures received 510(k) clearance from the FDA. 5. Micro-Tech Endoscopy offers products for endoscopic diagnosis and therapeutic medical devices. In Novem- ber, Micro-Tech Endoscopy launched its LesionHunter cold snare, a cold snare with an ultra-thin nitinol wire de- signed to advance polypectomy. 6. Olympus' medical portfolio includes endoscopes, lap- aroscopes and video imaging systems. In February, the company was awarded a contract for single-use bron- choscopes from Vizient, the largest group purchasing organization in the nation. n Gastroenterologist pay by the numbers: 16 stats By Patsy Newitt G astroenterology has consistently been among the top 10 highest- earning specialties in the U.S. Here are 16 key stats on gastroenterologist pay: is data was gathered from Medscape's Physician Salary Explorer, Physician Debt and Net Worth Report 2020, and Physi- cian Compensation Report 2022; Merritt Hawkins' Physician Revenue Calculator, Doximity's 2021 Physician Compensa- tion Report and a report from job market research company Zippia. 1. Gastroenterology pay increased 3 percent from 2020 to 2021 — from $485,817 to $500,400. 2. Pediatric gastroenterology salaries hit $295,751 in 2021, a 5.4 percent increase from 2020. 3. Gastroenterology is the 10th highest-paid physician specialty. 4. e average incentive bonus for gastroen- terologists is $60,000. 5. About half of gastroenterologists (55 per- cent) say they feel fairly compensated. Out of 29 specialties, gastroenterologists were ranked 21st among those in a specialty who felt fairly compensated. 6.
