Definitive Healthcare gathered data from January to November 2021. Commercial claims data was sourced from multiple med- ical claims clearinghouses and is updated monthly. Here are the 25 most common procedures, followed by the average charge per proce- dure: 1. Extracapsular cataract removal with inser- tion of intraocular lens prosthesis: $4,017 2. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy: $2,471 3. Colonoscopy, flexible, with biopsy; $2,692 4. Colonoscopy, flexible, with removal of tu- mors, polyps or other lesions by snare tech- nique: $2,534 5. Colonoscopy, flexible, diagnostic, includ- ing collection of specimens by brushing or washing: $2,562 6. Injection, anesthetic agent and/or steroid, transforaminal epidural, with imaging guid- ance: $2,636 7. Arthrocentesis, aspiration and/or injec- tion, major joint or bursa: $551 8. Arthroscopy, shoulder, surgical, with ro- tator cuff repair: $11,014 n ASC operating budgets trending up By Laura Dyrda Most ASCs have an annual operating budget of $3 million or more, accord- ing to a surgery in OR Manager. The survey examined responses from nearly 200 administrators last year. Fifty-seven percent of the administrators said they didn't know the operating budget. Here is the breakdown of the operating budget for the remaining 43 percent of respondents compared to 2020: 1. Less than $1 million: 2 percent (down from 9 percent) 2. $1 million to $1.9 million: 5 percent (down from 12 percent) 3. $2 million to $2.9 million: 6 percent (down from 12 percent) 4. $3 million to $4.9 million: 9 percent (down from 11 percent) 5. $5 million to $9.9 million: 12 percent (up from 5 percent) 6. $10 million to $14.9 million: 11 percent (up from 9 percent) 7. $15 million or more: 2 percent (down from 5 percent) Twenty-eight percent of the administrators said their operating budget in- creased last year over 2020 while 19 percent said their operating budgets decreased. The remaining 53 percent of respondents said their operating budgets stayed the same. n
