Medical and Surgical Center, New England Real Estate Journal reported Oct. 8. The financing of the two-story, 72,050-square- foot medical office building was arranged on behalf of the Vazza Real Estate Group. The building houses the West Suburban Eye Surgery Center. n US Eye adds South Carolina practice By Ariana Portalatin S arasota, Fla.-based US Eye recently added the Retina Center of Charleston (S.C.) to its network, its 50th loca- tion, the company said Sept. 30. The ophthalmology practice will provide services under the network's Charleston, S.C.-based multispecialty brand, Caro- lina Eyecare Physicians. The practice's founder, Lowery King, MD, has been practicing in Charleston for more than 32 years and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a former presi- dent of the South Carolina Society of Ophthalmology and the Charleston Ophthalmological Society. US Eye's network includes 96 providers and more than 1,000 staff members in four states. It operates 50 offices and five ASCs. n Tampa General acquires ASC from U of South Florida Health By Patsy Newitt Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital acquired an ASC from USF Health and will begin serving patients Nov. 8, the hospital said in an email. Opened in 2017, the ASC is on USF Health's Tampa campus. It has four operating rooms, five endosco- py suites and 33 beds in its pre- and postoperative recovery rooms. The ASC was recently ranked fourth best in Florida by Newsweek in its 2022 listing of America's best ASCs. The acquisition expands the affiliation between Tampa General and USF Health Morsani College of Medicine announced in 2020. Penn State joint venture acquires majority stake in ASC By Marcus Robertson A Penn State Health joint venture acquired a majority stake in the Surgery Center of Lancaster (Pa.), accord- ing to an Oct. 27 report in Lancaster Online. The Sept. 30 transaction gave the Hershey-based health system and its joint-venture partner, Leawood, Kan.-based ValueHealth, a 60 percent stake in the ASC. Financial details were not disclosed. The more than 17,000-square-foot ASC employs 56 staff and is used by 26 surgeons, according to the report. The ASC was established in 2005. It sits on a 2.6-acre plot of land, which was not included in the transaction. It is the joint venture's first project, according to the report. n
