Here's a timeline on how the expansion has progressed over the last year: September 2020: Rothman Orthopaedic Insti- tute partners with Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based AdventHealth to develop a Rothman location in Florida. e long-term deal was signed Sept. 22. A key factor in the collaboration is a $100 mil- lion medical office building that's expected to open in 2023. October 2020: Rothman president Alexander Vaccaro, MD, PhD, speaks with Becker's about the expansion and the practice's strategy. He describs AdventHealth as "the perfect partner" and discusss plans to bring 85 surgeons on in the next 10 years. Alfredo Arrojas, MD, is recruited to join Roth- man Orthopaedics - Florida. Daryl Oshbahr, MD, is tapped as managing di- rector and chief of orthopedic surgery of Roth- man Orthopaedics - Florida. December 2020: Sports medicine physician D. Harrison Youmans, MD, joins Rothman Ortho- paedics - Florida. February 2021: AdventHealth breaks ground on Rothman Orthopaedic Institute's Florida head- quarters. May 2021: Rothman contracts with Cigna for in-network value-based care in Florida. e group had a long-standing relationship with Cigna prior to this new deal, which gives Cigna members in-network care at Rothman facilities. June 2021: Rothman Orthopaedic Institute partners with Aetna, a CVS Health company, for in-network care in Florida. July 2021: Rothman Orthopaedic Institute opens its first office in Winter Park, Fla., aer expanding to the state last year. n Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute is first in US to earn spine surgery advanced certification By Alan Condon C onnecticut Orthopaedic Institute at MidState Medical Center in Meriden became the first center in the country to receive the Joint Commission's advanced certification in spine surgery. The Joint Commission's evaluation covers preoperative care and educa- tion, standardization of practices, procedures and patient care for patients, and pre- and postoperative consults with spine surgeons, as well as com- munication and collaboration among clinicians. Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute also met the commission's care stan- dards based on objective data collection guidelines, and it participates as required in the American Spine Registry, which measures clinical compli- cations and outcomes. "Our first-in-the-nation achievement of this certification is a testament to the exceptional, patient-centered, coordinated care for spinal surgery pa- tients," said Joel Bauman, MD, chief of neurosurgery for Hartford Health- Care's Central Region, in a Sept. 3 news release. "Our first-class multidisci- plinary team has led the way to improved spine surgery experiences and outcomes." Facilities must serve at least 200 spine patients to be eligible for the certi- fication. In July, the Joint Commission also awarded its "gold seal of approval" for advanced certification of total hip and knee replacement to the Connecti- cut Orthopaedic Institute at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, which opened in February. n Florida spine practice secures PE investment By Alan Condon P artnerCare, a portfolio company of private equity firm Shore Capital Partners, has affiliated with Florida Spine & Pain Center, which has clinics in Hollywood, Miramar and Lauderdale Lakes. The three-physician practice teamed with PartnerCare — a Tampa-based provider of interventional pain management and musculoskeletal services — to leverage additional expertise in practice management and to support its growth strategy. "PartnerCare is aligned with our patient-centric mission and will provide access to the resources needed to achieve our vision of continuing to ex- pand high-quality patient care throughout Southeast Florida and beyond," Lowell Davis, DO, founder of Florida Spine & Pain Center, said in an Aug. 25 news release. PartnerCare said it aims to continue to expand across the region by provid- ing operational, financial and technology support to affiliated practices. n
