39 JOINT VENTURES SCA's joint-venture ASC breaks ground in Minnesota By Carly Behm D evelopers broke ground May 20 on Surgical Care Affiliates' surgery center in partnership with Minneapolis-based Allina Health, CCX Media reported. The surgery center in Brooklyn Park, Minn., is expected to open in about 10 months and is the partnership's first ASC. More surgery centers are planned across the Twin Cities in the next five years. Allina Health announced plans for the ASC in February. It will be 18,000-square-feet with four operating rooms. The multispecialty center will include ENT, orthopedics, urology and general surgery, according to CCX Media. n Tenet-owned health system building $400M campus with ASC By Patsy Newitt T enet-owned Baptist Health System is planning a campus with an ASC that could approach $400 million at full build out, San Antonio Business Journal reported June 8. The San Antonio-based campus is slated to open on a 72-acre area where the city has experienced extensive population growth. It will be anchored by a large hospital, the ASC and several medical office buildings. The ambulatory facilities and medical buildings are expected to open next spring and the full service hospital in late 2023. n Construction of orthopedic ASC in Tennessee hits milestone By Carly Behm A n orthopedic ASC being built in Tennessee is on track to open in 2022, and developers reached a milestone in con- struction, according to a June 17 announcement. The final steel beam was set on the Advanced Orthopaedic Institute. The ASC is a partnership between the University of Tennessee Medi- cal Center, University Orthopaedic Surgeons and OrthoTennessee, all in Knoxville. The 91,000-square-foot ASC broke ground in October and is ex- pected to see about 225 to 275 patients daily. n 9 joint-venture ASCs with 3 or more partners By Patsy Newitt B ecker's ASC Review reported on nine joint- venture ASCs opened or announced by three or more shareholders in 2021. 1. A freestanding cardiology ASC will open through a partnership with Banner Health, Atlas Healthcare Partners and Cardiac Solutions. 2. Construction of Phoenix-based OrthoArizona's new multitenant facility in Scottsdale, Ariz., was completed. OrthoArizona partnered with Phoenix- based HonorHealth and Mission Viejo, Calif.-based Sovereign Healthcare to build the two-story facility. 3. Bozeman (Mont.) Health Cottonwood Clinic and Surgery Center opened April 19. e center operates as a joint venture among Bozeman Health, local physicians and Addison, Texas-based United Surgical Partners International. 4. Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System, SensusOne and Brighton, Mich.-based Advanced Orthopedic Specialists opened an ASC in April. 5. Five North Carolina companies, including ASC development company Compass Surgical Partners, began construction on the Western Carolina Sur- gery Center in March. 6. A partnership among Surgery Partners, Ryan Companies US and St. Peters, Mo.-based Advanced Bone & Joint broke ground on St. Peters Ambula- tory Surgery Center and Medical Office Building in March. 7. Physicians Endoscopy, Mary Washington Health- care in Fredericksburg, Va., and physicians from Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg opened a joint-venture center. 8. A joint-venture vascular ASC is slated to open in Corpus Christi, Texas, in early 2022. e ASC is a three-way joint venture among Malvern, Pa.-based Azura Vascular Care, National Cardiovascular Partners and the Dialysis Access Center of Corpus Christi. 9. e Vascular Institute of the Rockies opened Colorado's cardiovascular ASC in Denver in May. e center is a joint venture among the VIR, Denver-based Advanced Heart & Vein Center, Den- ver Interventional, Vascular Labs of the Rockies and Deerfield, Ill.-based Surgical Care Affiliates. n
