Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare
completed its purchase of Springfield, Tenn.-
based NorthCrest Health.
A proposed merger between two Michigan
health systems — Beaumont Health and Spec-
trum Health — took a step forward Sept.
2 as the two organizations signed a formal
integration agreement.
Louisville, Ky.-based Baptist Health and Evans-
ville, Ind.-based Deaconess Health System of-
ficially joined forces Sept. 1 to operate a Baptist
Health Madisonville (Ky.), its medical group and
associated outpatient facilities. Baptist Health and
Deaconess Health each own 50 percent of the
410-bed hospital, which was renamed to Baptist
Health Deaconess Madisonville.
Medical Properties Trust agreed to sell a 50 per-
cent stake in a portfolio of eight Massachusetts
hospitals to an infrastructure investment fund
managed by Macquarie Asset Management. Mac-
quarie Infrastructure Partners V LP will purchase
the eight hospitals, which currently are operated
by Dallas-based Steward Health Care.
Evanston, Ill.-based NorthShore University
HealthSystem signed a letter of intent to merge
with Naperville, Ill.-based Edward-Elmhurst
Health.
Medical Properties Trust has completed its
planned purchase of five hospitals in Florida for
nearly $900 million. e five Florida hospitals are:
Coral Gables Hospital, Florida Medical Center in
Lauderdale Lakes, Hialeah Hospital, North Shore
Medical Center in Miami and Palmetto General
Hospital in Hialeah.
e 619-bed Huntington Hospital in Pasadena,
Calif., on Aug. 4 finalized its affiliation with Los
Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Health System.
e Valley Health System, a six-hospital system
in Las Vegas owned by King of Prussia, Pa.-based
Universal Health Services, bought Elite Medical
Center, a microhospital offering emergency and
inpatient care in Las Vegas.
Wausau, Wis.-based Aspirus Health acquired
seven hospitals, 21 physician clinics and air
and ground ambulances from Ascension Wis
-
consin, part of St. Louis-based Ascension. e
seven Wisconsin hospitals involved in the deal
are: Eagle River Hospital; Good Samaritan Hos-
pital in Merrill; Howard Young Medical Center
in Woodruff; Our Lady of Victory Hospital in
Stanley; Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk;
St. Mary's Hospital in Rhinelander; and St.
Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point.
Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare has com-
pleted the sale of four Georgia hospitals to Atlan-
ta-based Piedmont Healthcare. e four hospitals
are: the Eastside Medical Center in Snellville; the
Cartersville Medical Center; and the two-hospital
Coliseum Health System, which includes Coli-
seum Medical Centers in Macon and Coliseum
Northside in Macon. With the transaction com-
plete, the hospitals will be renamed Piedmont
Eastside Medical Center, Piedmont Cartersville
Medical Center, Piedmont Macon Medical Center
and Piedmont Macon North Hospital.
e Medical University of South Carolina on
Aug. 1 finalized its acquisition of KershawHealth,
a single-hospital system in Camden, S.C., and
Providence Health, a two-hospital system based
in Columbia, S.C., from Brentwood, Tenn.-based
LifePoint Health.
Rome, Ga.-based Floyd Health System has joined
Charlotte, N.C., based Atrium Health.
Garrett Regional Medical Center, a 55-bed hospi

tal in Oakland, Md., will explore becoming a full
member of the West Virginia University Health
System in Morgantown.
Perry Memorial Hospital, a 25-bed critical access
hospital in Princeton, Ill., offiially joined OSF
HealthCare in Peoria, Ill.
Harrington HealthCare System, a Southbridge,
Mass.-based system comprising a 119-bed hos-
pital, satellite location and three medical office
buildings, joined Worcester, Mass.-based UMass
Memorial Health on July 1.
