46 JOINT VENTURES $16M ASC opened by Ascension Saint Thomas By Alan Condon A two-story multispecialty surgery center opened Aug. 4 at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tenn., according to the Murfreesboro Daily News Journal. The $16 million ASC is a joint venture between Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford, United Sur- gical Partners International and local physicians. Two operating rooms and a gastrointestinal suite are featured on the center's first floor, with physician offices on the second. There is also space to add another operating room and gastrointestinal suite. Urology, general surgery, otolaryngology and gastroenterology services will be provided at the 13,000-square-foot center, which also houses a specialty clinic for urogynecology. The facility is part of an estimated $500 mil- lion that Ascension Saint Thomas, a 10-hospital system in Tennessee, has invested in Rutherford County in the last 10 years, according to the report. Five notes: 1. The ASC specializes in orthopedics, colon and rectal surgery, gastroenterology, urology, ophthalmology, general surgery and gynecology. 2. The 14,500-square-foot center has three operating rooms and two procedure rooms. 3. The ASC is a joint venture between the surgeons, Texas Health Resources and Surgical Care Affiliates, according to its website. 4. Seven surgeons operate at the facility: Marc Roux, MD, and Joshua McSpadden, DO, (orthopedics); Yomi Fayiga, MD, and Anuj Kandel, MD, (colon and rectal surgery); Achal Modi, MD, (urology); and Galen Kemp, MD, and Rajiv Rugwani, MD, (oph- thalmology). 5. Texas Health Surgery Center is the anchor tenant in the 26,000-square-foot medical office building recently completed by Huntsville, Ala.-based real estate agency Prime Healthcare Properties. n Georgia ASC acquired for $2.3M By Patsy Newitt R eal estate firm Sanders Capital Partners acquired an ASC in Duluth, Ga., for $2.3 million, Birmingham Business Journal reported Aug. 3. The firm leased the 9,200-square-foot ASC back to Prima Center for Plastic Surgery. The Prima Center for Plastic Surgery is accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities. n Healthcare fundraising arm finishes primary care clinic, plans ASC By Patsy Newitt T he Albert Lea (Minn.) Healthcare Coalition completed construction on a full-service primary care clinic that will be staffed by Mason City-based MercyOne North Iowa. The healthcare fundraising arm also has plans to build an outpa- tient surgery center on-site, local ABC affiliate 6News reported July 24. The clinic is the end result of a fundraising movement to restore select services suspended at MercyOne's Albert Lea campus. n
