44 JOINT VENTURES ASC market to hit $33B by 2028 By Laura Dyrda T he U.S. ASC market is poised for significant growth in the next seven years, according to a report from New York marketing research firm Research Nester. Five takeaways: 1. The U.S. ASC market is expected to see a 6.9 per- cent compound annual growth rate through 2028. 2. Increased disease prevalence and demand for quick, low-cost care will drive market growth. Sixty percent of adults in the U.S. have a chronic disease, including heart or orthopedic conditions, some of which could be treated in ASCs, according to the report. 3. The ASC market was worth $30 billion in 2019 and is expected to reach $33 billion by 2028. 4. Freestanding ASCs will likely generate revenue of nearly $15 billion in 2021, which is expected to grow to $24.5 billion by 2028. 5. Single-specialty ASC revenue is expected to grow from $13.4 billion in 2021 to $21.8 billion in 2028. n Minnesota ASC becomes 1st in state to perform spine surgery with Medtronic robot By Alan Condon W oodbury, Minn.-based Summit Orthopedics' Eagan Surgery Center was reportedly the first ASC in the state to perform spine surgery with the Mazor X Stealth Edition robotic system. Roman Guerrero, MD, performed an L4-L5 transforaminal interbody fusion and a posterior decompression and fusion on a 58-year-old man. The patient had disabling lower back pain and right-side ra- diating lower extremity pain for nine months, during which he underwent nonsurgical treatment as part of Summit's multi- modal therapy approach, according to a June 9 news release. "Every patient is unique, and every patient deserves the most personalized care available," Dr. Guerrero said in a June 9 news release. "It was very exciting to use this new state-of-the- art robotic technology today and to realize the enhanced pos- itive impact we can now have on our spinal surgery patients." Summit Orthopedics said Eagan Surgery Center was the first ASC in the U.S. to earn the Joint Commission's certificate of distinction for the management of spinal fusion and the first in the state to earn Blue Distinction Center+ status for spine surgery from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota. Summit Orthopedics has 46 physicians and 25 locations across Minnesota, according to its website. n AdventHealth building joint-venture spine facility By Patsy Newitt A dventHealth Neuroscience Institute is build- ing a spine-focused medical facility with real estate investment firm Verax Investments in Winter Garden, Fla., the investment firm said Aug. 2. The 24,000-square-foot building will be under the management of Orlando (Fla.) Neurosurgery, an anchor tenant with AdventHealth Physical Therapy. The two-story project broke ground July 15 and is slated for completion in the spring of 2022, accord- ing to Verax Investments. n ValueHealth building joint replacement facility with ASC By Patsy Newitt V alueHealth is building a joint replacement facility with an ASC in Concord Township, Pa., Bernardon, an archi- tecture firm involved with the project, said Aug. 5. The 18,600-square-foot facility will feature two operating rooms and an overnight suite with eight guest rooms that provide residence close to the ASC. Leawood, Kan.-based ValueHealth also recently announced it is partnering with Boca Raton-based Ortho Florida for a network of orthopedic-focused ASCs n
