27 JOINT VENTURES ValueHealth, University Hospitals to open another Ohio ASC By Patsy Newitt L eawood, Kan.-based ValueHealth and Cleveland- based University Hospitals are developing a multispecialty, joint-venture ASC in Medina, Ohio, according to an April 27 news release. This is the partnership's second ASC announced in Northeast Ohio — a joint-venture orthopedic ASC in Lorain County, Ohio, was announced in March. The planned ASC will offer ValueHealth's hyperspe- cialty joint program, Muve, which "includes a proven recovery model to reduce risk for patient readmission and postoperative complications," the release said. The ASC will also offer cardiology, pain management and ENT procedures. n UVA Health acquires ASC By Patsy Newitt U niversity of Virginia Health in Charlottesville final- ized an agreement to acquire an ASC, according to an April 16 release. UVA Health will take over the 17,000-square-foot Mon- ticello Community Surgery Center that was previously independently owned and operated. The center features four operating suites and one proce- dure room. UVA Health aims to reduce surgical wait times and free up capacity at UVA Medical Center's main operating rooms by shifting routine outpatient procedures to the center, the release said. n 3-group cardiology joint venture forms in South Carolina By Patsy Newitt I ndependent cardiology and vascular practice An- derson (S.C.) Heart partnered with Azura Vascular Care and National Cardiovascular Partners for a joint venture, according to a May 4 news release. The partnership completes an equity recapitalization, the release said, and will focus on growth and physician recruitment in South Carolina. Malvern, Pa.-based Azura Vascular Care manages and op- erates cardiology ASCs and outpatient vascular care. It is a division of Fresenius Medical Care North America. Ander- son Heart's four physicians operate from a wholly owned freestanding clinic and local hospitals when necessary. National Cardiovascular Partners, also a division of Frese- nius Medical Care North America, partners with inde- pendent ASCs and catheterization labs. The venture was advised by investment bank The Capital Corp. n Healthcare group-physician joint venture opens ASC By Patsy Newitt O utpatient surgery resumed at Valley, Ala.-based EAMC-Lanier after the opening of an ASC — a joint venture between Opelika-based East Alabama Medical Center and five physician sharehold- ers, wrbl.com reported April 28. The facility opened in 2010, but received extensive renovation in 2020. The ASC now features four operat- ing rooms, one procedure room, two recovery areas, a central sterile department, a C-arm radiographic machine with a vascular package and a new ultrasound machine. To start, surgeons will focus on orthopedic, gastroen- terology, and general and vascular surgery procedures. There are eight surgeons currently practicing at the ASC, and others are being actively recruited, according to wrbl.com. n
