83 CIO / HEALTH IT CIO leadership is moving beyond technology to office design, culture By Hannah Mitchell C IOs are taking on a wider range of responsibil- ities since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Wall Street Journal reported May 12. IT leaders are expected to develop more consum- er-facing technologies for employees and patients. Americans have accelerated their embrace of digital commerce. That means that CIOs will need to bring easy-to-use technology into the workplace for both employees and patients. They are also expected to establish hybrid work for some portion of the workforce and address the asso- ciated challenges that come with it. Tech chiefs are designing the future of the orga- nization, said Vipin Gupta, CIO of Toyota Financial Services, at a virtual summit hosted by Cambridge, Mass.-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology. "The question at the leadership table is not about what should become digital, [but] what should remain physical only," Mr. Gupta said. n How top EHR vendors ranked in hospital beds gained, lost in 2020 By Jackie Drees W hile 2020 was not Epic's largest year for EHR market share growth, the Verona, Wis.-based EHR vendor gained more hospital contracts and beds than its competitors for the year, according to a KLAS Research report published in May. For its "U.S. Hospital Market Share 2021" report, KLAS examined EHR purchasing activity and contracts across the country from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2020. This includes EHR market share data for acute care specialty hospitals and other specialty hospitals. Here's the net change, or how many beds each vendor gained or lost, for acute care hospitals in 2020: • Epic: +19,247 • CPSI: +152 • Azalea Health: +151 • Allscripts: +13 • Medhost: -1,438 • Meditech: -3,458 • Cerner: -10,480 n Allscripts looks to increase diversity in health IT through Empower program By Jackie Drees A llscripts Developer Program, a health IT innovation initiative within the Chicago-based EHR vendor's busi- ness, launched a program that aims to increase diver- sity across the health IT industry and expand resources for underrepresented entrepreneurs. The program, dubbed ADP Empower, builds on the compa- ny's developer program, which partners with developers to provide the IT tools and technologies companies need to connect their innovations with Allscripts' clients, according to a May 5 news release. Through ADP Empower, Allscripts will offer a special package to minority-owned or led health IT companies. The empower- ment package includes an official Allscripts partnership, one- on-one guidance for technical, marketing and business devel- opment best practices as well as client facing-opportunities. n Teladoc launches mental healthcare service: 4 notes By Jackie Drees T eladoc Health is expanding its virtual care offering through the launch of its mental healthcare service MyStrength Complete, the company said May 11. Four notes: 1. MyStrength Complete will offer personalized men- tal health services to consumers as an integration of Teladoc's virtual platform. 2. The new service combines app-based tools and coaching support with Teladoc's therapists and psychiatrists. 3. MyStrength Complete will be available to consum- ers through their health plans or employers in July. 4. The service was developed through the integration of Teladoc and Livongo, Teladoc COO David Sides said in the news release. The companies completed their merger in October for $18.5 billion. n
