63 CIO / HEALTH IT 8 things that make Amazon Care unique from competitors By Hannah Mitchell A mazon has surpassed milestones in its expansion into the healthcare sector. Unlike traditional health- care organizations, the company's virtual care pilot, Amazon Care, adopted a unique business model. Eight things that differentiate Amazon Care from traditional competitors: 1. Amazon Care will expand its services to other companies, as well as Amazon employ- ees in all 50 states. 2. It will focus on employers instead of health plans by contracting directly with employ- ers. is will lower overhead administra- tion costs, bringing down costs for both the employer and employee, according to a March 18 Forrester blog post. 3. e Amazon Care app will allow patients to receive aer-care summaries, schedule fol- low-up visits and get follow-up reminders. 4. Amazon Care can help patients evaluate their work-from-home setups to optimize joint and muscle health. 5. Amazon Care will offer non-tradition- al health services like lifestyle and wellness coaching, the Forrester blog post said. 6. Amazon Care teamed up with Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Healthcare and St. Louis-based Ascension to form a home- based alliance to encourage healthcare pol- icies to designate a home as a site of service. 7. e in-person care facilities are called Neighborhood Health Centers, and they operate on extended hours during both the workweek and weekends to accommodate employee schedules. 8. e goal of the project is to lower the cost of healthcare by encouraging employees and their family members to go to the centers for preventive care instead of more expensive emergency rooms or urgent care centers. n Montefiore fires employee who snooped EHRs for over 1 year By Jackie Drees N ew York City-based Montefiore Medical Center began notifying patients April 13 that their pro- tected health information was inappropriately accessed by a former employee. The employee inappropriately viewed patient records between January 2020 and February 2021, violating Montefiore's code of conduct, the health system said in an April news release. Montefiore discovered the improper access via its FairWarning software, which monitors improper access to electronic patient records, according to the news release. After discovering the situation, Montefiore suspended the employee and disabled their EHR ac- cess. The hospital has since fired the employee and referred the case to law enforcement, according to the news release. The health system terminated another employee ear- lier this year for EHR snooping and notified patients Jan. 29. Montefiore confirmed to Becker's April 14 that this data breach is a separate incident from the January report and a different employee was involved. Patient information involved in this breach includ- ed first and last names, medical record numbers, addresses, emails, and the last four digits of Social Security numbers. n 10 most common passwords used by healthcare employees By Jackie Drees W hen it comes to preferred passwords among health- care industry employees, many are choosing weak options that can make their employer hospital or health system organization vulnerable to cyberattacks, according to an April 20 NordPass report. For its analysis, NordPass, a password manager for B2B and B2C clients, partnered with a data breach research company to examine data from public third-party breaches that affect- ed Fortune 500 companies. The researchers analyzed data from 15,603,438 breaches and categorized the top 10 pass- words used in 17 different industries. Here are the 10 most common passwords healthcare industry employees use, according to the report.
