20 ASC MANAGEMENT Michigan hospital to convert on- site day care into surgery center By Carly Behm L ansing, Mich.-based Sparrow Hospital is closing its day care center for employees to build its outpatient surgery center, according to a March 23 report from the Lansing State Journal. Plans for the three-story, 100,000-square-foot outpatient center were announced in October. The facility comes in response to an increase in outpatient surgeries at the hospital. The day care facility, where some employees send their chil- dren, will close July 2. There aren't plans for relocation. Sparrow Health owns the building and paid a child care company to manage services. n El Paso physicians sell ASC real estate for $9.5M By Patsy Newitt A physician's partnership in El Paso, Texas, sold an ortho- pedic-focused medical real estate portfolio with an ASC to a medical real estate investment trust for $9.5 million. The three-building portfolio is anchored by El Paso-based Sun City Orthopaedics and West El Paso Surgical Center, a joint venture between Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare and physicians, according to the transaction summary. Minneapolis-based healthcare real estate brokerage firm HG Real Estate Partners represented the buyer side for the transaction. n North Carolina health system plans new ASC: 3 details By Carly Behm W ilmington (N.C.) Health is planning to open an ASC in 2022, according to a March 24 report from Wilming- tonBiz. Here's what you should know: 1. The facility will have 20,000 square feet, an operating room and three procedure rooms. 2. The ASC is expected to open in the first or second quarter of 2022 near Wilmington Health's main campus. 3. The center will have procedures from general surgery to orthopedics. Currently, some Wilmington Health surgeons are performing outpatient surgeries at other facilities. n 10 ASC administrators to know By Patsy Newitt T he COVID-19 pandemic required ASC administrators to work adaptably and creatively during the past year. Here are 10 ASC administrators to know: 1. Raghu Reddy is an executive administrator at Cumber- land-based SurgCenter of Western Maryland, where he has served for nine years. 2. Becky Ziegler-Otis is administrator of the Ambulatory Surgical Center of Stevens Point (Wis.), where she has served for 13 years. She serves as the facility privacy officer, IT security officer, compliance officer and human resources specialist. 3. Gregory DeConciliis is the administrator of Boston Out- Patient Surgical Suites in Waltham, Mass., a multispecialty center that opened in July 2004. Mr. DeConciliis has served there since its inception. He is also the president of the Mas- sachusetts Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers. 4. Andrew Weiss is the administrator and assistant vice president of Vorhees, N.J.-based Summit Surgical Center. He's also the current president of the Board of Ambulatory Certification. 5. Beverly Baker is the administrator of Timberlake Surgery Center in Chesterfield, Mo., where she has served for 13 years. She is also on the board of directors for the Missouri Ambulatory Surgery Center Association. 6. Tami Robinson, MSN, RN, is the administrator and direc- tor of nursing for Unity Surgical Center in Lafayette, Ind., where she has served for 20 years. Unity Surgical Center was voted Indiana's No. 1 ASC in Newsweek's listing of top ASCs. 7. Sandy Stillman-Alvin joined Raleigh, N.C.-based Com- pass Surgical Partners as an executive administrator in July 2020. Ms. Stillman-Alvin joined Compass Surgical Partners with 21 years of experience in healthcare administration. 8. Amy Allard, BSN, RN, has served as an administrator at Ramsey, N.J.-based Ramapo Valley Surgical Center for almost 16 years. e center opened in 2005 and offers ENT, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pain management and podia- try procedures. 9. Anne Remm has served as administrator of Omaha, Neb.- based Miracle Hills Surgery Center for 12 years. Her center is a multispecialty facility that opened in 2003. 10. Matthew Ewasko is an administrator of Physicians Alli- ance Surgery Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. n
