46 JOINT VENTURES 14-physician orthopedic group joins OSF Healthcare By Alan Condon P eoria, Ill.-based Great Plains Orthopedics is expanding its practice to OSF HealthCare's St. Mary Medical Center in Evergreen Park, Ill., The Register-Mail reported March 25. This week, Great Plains physicians began scheduling office visits at the south suburban Chicago hospital, where they will also perform surgeries. The practice has 14 physicians and six locations, according to its website. For St. Mary Medical Center, the affiliation will ex- pand orthopedic services and access to care in the community. "It will build on our current relationship with Great Plains to expand our commitment to clinical excel- lence and adoption of new techniques that enhance patient care," Lisa DeKezel, the hospital's president, told the publication. n PE GI, New Jersey endoscopy center acquire new ASC By Patsy Newitt P E GI Solutions and North Bergen, N.J.-based Ambula- tory Center for Endoscopy acquired Hudson Bergen Medical Center, ACE's second location, which has been renamed Hudson Bergen Endoscopy and Surgical Center. The acquisition of Hudson Bergen was spearheaded by six physician partners of ACE's first location, according to a March 24 release. The second location accommodates patients needing gastroenterology or general surgical procedures. The partnering physicians of the Hudson Bergen Endoscopy and Surgical Center are expected to perform over 4,000 procedures annually. PE GI Solutions, formerly named Physicians Endoscopy, first partnered with ACE in 2012. PE GI partners has 60 gastroen- terology centers and more than 600 gastroenterologists na- tionwide. This is the second joint venture center the company has opened this year. n University Hospitals, ValueHealth plan orthopedic surgery center By Alan Condon C leveland-based University Hospitals and ValueHealth are developing a joint venture ASC in Lorain County, Ohio, that will be able to perform 800 total joint replacements a year. The orthopedic surgery center is the first in a series of projects between University Hospitals and the Leawood, Kan.-based digital healthcare company. The ASC will be designated through ValueHealth's Ambulatory Centers of Excellence program with a total joint replacement certification, according to a March 16 news release. It will have four operating rooms and postsurgery recovery suites to reduce the risk of readmissions and postop complications. The surgery center is expected to open in the second quarter of 2022 and "drive millions in cost savings for consumers and payers," ValueHealth CEO Don Bisbee said. n US Orthopaedic Partners acquires 2 Mississippi practices By Eric Oliver U .S. Orthopaedic Partners acquired Jackson Anesthe- sia Pain Centers and Oxford Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, the platform announced March 2. Jackson (Miss.) Anesthesia Pain Center and Oxford (Miss.) Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine combine to provide care for musculoskeletal disorders and chronic disease management. The practice strengthens U.S. Orthopaedic Partners' base in the Southeastern U.S. Cooper Terry, MD, founder of Oxford Orthopaedics, said the practice joined the platform to benefit from the size and scale it provides. He said, "We are a smaller group by size, but joining the USOP platform will afford us the same long- term benefits and opportunities that having size and scale provides." U.S. Orthopaedic Partners was formed in October 2020 after FFL Partners invested in Mississippi Sports Medicine in Jackson. n
