To determine the nation's happiest states, ana- lysts used 32 metrics to compare states across three dimensions: emotional and physical well- being; work environment; and community and environment. Metrics ranged from the depres- sion rate and the positive COVID-19 testing rate to income growth and unemployment rate. Rankings are based on data available as of Sept. 15. Read more about the methodology here. Here are the 10 happiest states, according to the analysis: 1. Hawaii 2. Utah 3. Minnesota 4. New Jersey 5. Maryland 6. California 7. North Dakota 8. Iowa 9. Oregon n Most physicians say pandemic has changed their employment plans & 4 more survey findings By Laura Dyrda M ore than half of employed physicians are considering a change in their practice situation after the pandemic, accord- ing to a Jackson Physician Search report. The physician search firm surveyed 400 physicians in October and No- vember of 2020 and published their findings Feb. 25. The survey also included 85 healthcare administrators responding to questions about their physician retention programs. Five survey findings: 1. Sixty-nine percent of physician respondents reported being actively disengaged from employers. The survey asked whether physicians felt engaged by their employer, whether there was effective two-way com- munication with administrators and whether they had access to leader- ship training and career advancement to measure engagement. 2. Fifty-four percent of respondents said COVID-19 changed their em- ployment plans. 3. Half of the respondents who plan to change their employment plans said they would consider leaving for a new employer. 4. Twenty-one percent of respondents who plan to change their em- ployment plans said they are considering early retirement. 5. Fifteen percent of respondents who plan to change their employ- ment plans said they may leave medicine. n AdventHealth to invest $400M in West Florida expansions By Alia Paavola A ltamonte Springs, Fla.-based AdventHealth plans to invest $400 million into capital projects for its West Florida division, accord- ing to The Tampa Bay Business Journal. One of the major projects is a $220 million, 80-bed hospital in Florida's South Hillsborough County. Construction of the facility, which will in- clude 100,000 square feet of medical office space, will begin this year. In addition to the new hospital, AdventHealth has invested about $100 million to expand care pavilions across the state, according to the report. These pavilions offer primary care, pharmacies and lab and imaging services. Two of these care pavilions are under construction in the Tampa region. The investment also includes an expansion at AdventHealth Carroll- wood in Tampa and building a 13,000-square-foot, 24-bed inpatient oncology unit at AdventHealth Wesley Chapel (Fla.). n
