53 DEVICES & IMPLANTS Alphatec launches posterior fixation system for whole spine By Carly Behm M edical device company Alphatec Holdings launched the InVictus Occipital-Cervical-Thoracic Spinal Fixation System. The device extends the InVictus Posterior Fixation platform to the entire spine, according to a March 15 news release. Key features of the InVictus OCT Spinal Fixation system in- clude: • Integration with Alphatec's SafeOp Neural InformatiX Sys- tem for spinal fusion and Invictus Spinal Fixation System • Adaptation to surgical requirements intraoperatively • Minimizes potential tulip splay and cross-threading using helical flange technology "In less than two years, ATEC has orchestrated, from de- sign to commercialization, the largest system our teams have ever released. This speaks to the prowess of the Or- ganic Innovation Machine," said CEO and Chair Pat Miles. "With the release of InVictus OCT, we are obviating the last of the legacy Alphatec products and can now offer a clinically distinct platform capable of seamlessly treating the entire spine." n Hospital for Special Surgery gifted $35M for spine, orthopedic tower By Alan Condon T he Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Foundation, a nonprofit organization, has donated $35 million to New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery for the development of a 12-story tower that will special- ize in spine surgery and joint replacement. Four things to know: 1. The 100,000-square-foot facility will be adjacent to the main HSS hospital in New York City. 2. The tower will include three private inpatient floors, multidisciplinary medical teams and on-site imaging. Con- struction is set to begin this year, according to a March 16 news release. 3. In January 2020, through a partnership with Dal- las-based Tenet Healthcare, HSS opened its first facility in Florida — a 60,000-square-foot hospital in West Palm Beach. 4. HSS has been ranked No. 1 in orthopedics for 11 con- secutive years by U.S. News & World Report. n Musculoskeletal startup acquires back pain-focused company By Eric Oliver M usculoskeletal startup Hinge Health acquired Enso, a company that produces electric stimu- lation machines for back and joint pain, the San Francisco Business Times reported March 11. This is Hinge Health's first acquisition. Enso will become a part of Hinge Health. The Enso device is a wireless devices that uses high-fre- quency pulses to relieve pain. Hinge Health is valued at $3 billion. n 4Web Medical gets clearance for lumbar plating device By Carly Behm 4 Web Medical received 510(k) clearance from the FDA to market its Lumbar Plating Solution. The device has a variety of modular plating config- urations to address multiple lumbar spine pathologies and approaches, according to a March 17 news release. It has an integrated and nonintegrated offering for sin- gle-, two- and four-screw options and a single-step lock- ing mechanism. Last year, 4Web Medical's Stand-Alone Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion Device received FDA clearance. n
