31 ORTHOPEDICS Dr. John Spitalieri moves spine practice to Arizona By Alan Condon N eurosurgeon John Spitalieri, DO, has opened the Arizona Neurosurgery & Spine Center in Prescott, Ariz., according to a Jan. 22 news release. Four things to know: 1. Dr. Spitalieri specializes in various spine procedures, in- cluding decompression, minimally invasive spine surgery, artificial disc replacement and percutaneous treatments. 2. Previously, he practiced with North Carolina Neurosur- gery and Spine Clinic in Fayetteville. 3. Dr. Spitalieri has authored several articles published in professional journals, including the Journal of Neurosur- gery: Spine, and presented on spine and neurosurgery topics. 4. He completed a fellowship in neurosurgery at Cooper Hospital in Camden, N.J., and a pediatric spine surgery fellowship at Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia. n Colorado spine groups ready merger that will include 43 physicians, 3 ASCs By Alan Condon L ongmont, Colo.-based Front Range Orthopedics & Spine and Fort Collins, Colo.-based Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies entered into a definitive merger agreement that combined the practices Jan 1. The merged entity will have about 600 employees across seven clinical locations, including a new facility opening in Westminster, Colo., in summer 2021. The practice includes three ASCs, two recovery centers, three MRI facilities, and four physical and occupational therapy centers, according to a Dec. 18 news release. Forty-three physicians will practice under the OCR umbrel- la, as well as 34 physician assistants and nurse practitioners, 18 physical therapists and seven occupational therapists. The partnership includes full business and clinical integra- tion and aims to strengthen value-based care initiatives in the region. n Mercy Health plans $156M medical complex with orthopedic hospital By Alan Condon M ercy Health plans to build a medical complex that will feature a 60-bed hospital in Mason, Ohio, cincinnati.com reports. The $156 million complex will focus on general ortho- pedic surgery and emergency care, the Cincinnati- based system said in a news release. There will be space to expand the campus. The center will include an emergency department, four operating rooms and two procedure suites. A medical office building will provide access to cardiology, pulm- onology, general surgery, gynecology, gastroenterol- ogy and vascular services. The complex is expected to add 220 jobs in 2024, eventually rising to 275. Construction is slated to begin in the third quarter of 2021 and finish in the third quarter of 2023. n $150M spine, orthopedic hospital to begin construction in Colorado By Alan Condon P enrose-St. Francis Health Services in Colorado Springs, Colo., plans to begin construction on a $150 million hospital that will focus on spine and orthopedic care, The Gazette reports. The 72-bed hospital will be built on a 57.8-acre lot that Penrose-St. Francis bought in 2019 for $30 million. The hospital will have 10 operating rooms and include a medical office building and a surgery center built by an orthopedic group. Penrose-St. Francis also operates St. Francis Medi- cal Center and Penrose Hospital, both in Colorado Springs. A name for the new hospital hasn't yet been announced. Construction is set to begin in early 2021, with opening set for January 2023. n
