22 JOINT VENTURES 12 ASC expansions in 2020 By Carly Behm Here are 12 ASCs that opened or announced expansions in 2020: Note: is is not an exhaustive list. Please reach out to Carly Behm (cbehm@beckershealthcare.com) with any questions or ASCs that should be added. Phoenix-based McConnell Colorectal Center opened a second surgery center. A 45,000-square-foot medical plaza development is underway in Victoria, Texas. It will feature an ASC expansion. Froedtert Pleasant Prairie (Wis.) Hospital's surgery center expansion opened in June. Marietta, Ga.-based WellStar Health System opened a new surgery center in 2019, and now it's expanding. Mitchell County Regional Health Center is expand- ing its same-day surgical capacity by adding three more procedure rooms as part of a larger expan- sion. Colorado construction firm Golden Triangle Construction began working on four outpatient healthcare projects in the state, including an ASC and gastroenterology expansion in Fort Collins, Colo. Essentia Health-St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes, Minn., will expand its surgery center and warehouse space through a $2 million project expected to finish in 2021. Green Bay, Wis.-based Orthopedic & Sports Medi- cine Specialists plans to open a second clinic in the Appleton, Wis., area with a surgery center. Spectrum Health is upgrading its surgery center in Zeeland, Mich., according to a Sept. 25 post by e Christman Co., a construction firm involved in the project. St. Cloud (Minn.) Surgical Center broke ground on an $11 million facility expansion to accommodate an increased demand for spine and orthopedic procedures. Jacksonville, Fla.-based Digestive Disease Consul- tants is building a second ASC in the city, accord- ing to Abdi Abbassi, MD, a gastroenterologist with the practice. Memphis, Tenn.-based OrthoSouth is developing a clinic and expanding its surgery center on the first floor of a medical office building in Germantown, Tenn. n SurgCenter developing ASCs in New Hampshire, Maryland By Eric Oliver Towson, Md.-based Surg Center Development is moving forward with a pair of new ASCs in New Hampshire and Maryland. SurgCenter expects to open Lighthouse Surgical Suites in Hollis, N.H., in the spring. The 7,630-square-foot ASC will have two operating rooms and will specialize in orthopedics and total joint replacements. It was SurgCenter's first development since it sold 45 surgery centers to Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare for $1.1 billion in December 2020. The ASC management company is also scouting locations in Mary- land to open Advanced Surgical Care of Maryland. The surgery center will also have two ORs and specialize in orthopedics. SurgCenter plans to open this surgery center in late 2021. n Ohio surgery center project delayed by COVID-19 pandemic By Eric Oliver A surgery center slated to be built adjacent to UH Mayfield (Ohio) Village Health Center will be delayed a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, cleveland.com reported Jan. 6. UH Mayfield Village Health Center owners Yoram Moyal, MD, and Ro- man Petroff, MD, are delaying the project to postpone a traffic study. The pandemic has resulted in fewer cars on the road, so a study com- pleted in early 2021 won't represent post-pandemic traffic patterns. The new traffic study will be conducted July 19, which is when the physicians will submit their preliminary site plan as well. If the project is approved, developers will begin construction in No- vember 2022. n Texas health system breaks ground on $8.5M cardiovascular center By Eric Oliver L ongview, Texas-based Christus Good Shepherd Health System broke ground on an $8.5 million cardiovascular center of excel- lence Jan. 7, the Longview News-Journal reports. The facility will be 21,500 square feet. It will feature clinical offices and cardiac heart services. Developers project the facility will take eight months to build. The hospital's 12 cardiac specialists will staff the facility. n
