12 ASC MANAGEMENT Tenet's strategic shift to ASCs: 5 details By Laura Dyrda T enet is moving away from high-cost, lower margin hospitals and deepen- ing its portfolio of lower cost, higher margin ASCs. Seeking Alpha published a report outlin- ing Tenet's strategic shi to ASCs through United Surgical Partners International, its ASC division. Five things to know: 1. Tenet's adjusted EBITDA margin for ASCs has grown from 37.3 percent in 2015 to 41.5 percent in 2019. Over the same time period, the company's adjusted EBITDA margin for hospitals dropped from 9.8 percent to 9.2 percent. 2. e number of hospitals in Tenet's port- folio shrunk from 86 in 2015 to 65 in 2019. Over the same four-year period, the number of ASCs grew 24 percent from 192 to 238 centers. 3. Tenet added to its ASC portfolio last year and purchased 45 ASCs from SurgCenter Development for $1.1 billion. e company will own controlling interest in the centers when the transaction is complete. 4. Tenet sold 87 urgent care facilities to Fast- Med last year for $80 million. e company also agreed to sell its ownership in a Mem- phis area hospital for $350 million. 5. Revenue for Tenet's ASCs grew 125 percent from $959 million in 2015 to $2.1 billion in 2019. Hospital revenue dropped from $16.9 million to $15.5 million over the same time period. n 10 lowest-paying cities for physicians By Eric Oliver T he COVID-19 pandemic has had a lasting ef- fect on healthcare compensation, according to Doximity's 2020 Physician Compensation Report released Oct. 29. Doximity used its data repository, including responses from approximately 44,000 licensed U.S. physicians, to calculate the findings in its report. Doximity received annual salary information from physicians and calculated the median annual salaries reported below. Here are 10 cities with the lowest compensation rates for physicians in 2020: 1. San Antonio: $329,475 2. Virginia Beach, Va.: $331,952 3. Boston: $347,894 4. Baltimore: $348,389 5. Washington, D.C.: $351,572 6. Denver: $352,073 7. Philadelphia: $354,768 8. Memphis, Tenn.: $356,875 9. Louisville, Ky.: $360,609 10.
