The transaction was unanimously approved by the boards for both companies and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2021. Exact acquired Thrive for its CancerSEEK blood-based cancer panel. In a recent interventional study, the test detected 10 different types of cancer, including seven with no screening guidelines. Exact plans to further develop the test and advance it through the approval process. Thrive will receive $1.7 billion at closing, with up to $450 million in milestone-based payments. Exact concurrently reached a deal to acquire Base Ge- nomics, an epigenetics company, but did not disclose the acquisition cost. n Alabama Gastro Health affiliate expanding By Eric Oliver S outheast Gastro, an affiliate of Miami-based Gastro Health, is expanding its space in Birmingham, Ala., Birmingham Business Journal reported Nov. 6. What you should know: 1. The practice will lease the entire top floor of the medical office building it's located in. Southeast Gas- tro, which rebranded under the Gastro Health moni- ker, will move into the 12,000-square-foot space. The practice currently occupies 3,800 square feet. 2. The practice is customizing the space to modernize the patient rooms and add an infusion center. 3. Mark Johnson, Gastro Health division vice president of Alabama, said to the Business Journal the practice is evaluating customer needs and demographics in the area and will tailor future expansion to those ele- ments. n Independent GI practice opens 3rd endoscopy center — 4 details By Angie Stewart I ndependent gastroenterology practice Charleston (S.C.) GI opened an endoscopy center in Summerville, S.C., ac- cording to local media outlet Live 5 News. What you should know: 1. With the opening of Lowcountry Endoscopy Center, Charleston GI now operates four offices and three endos- copy centers. 2. Lowcountry Endoscopy Center will primarily focus on colon cancer screenings for patients in Summerville and sur- rounding areas. 3. Charleston GI says its Lowcountry Endoscopy Center is Berkeley County's first freestanding endoscopy center owned and operated by independent gastroenterologists. 4. In total, Charleston GI has 12 board-certified gastroenter- ologists. Their combined experience exceeds 100 years. n
