30 INNOVATION How a former Target exec transformed innovation at Banner Health By Laura Dyrda P hoenix-based Banner Health named former Target executive Christy An- derson executive director of its inno- vation group in 2017, and since then she has overhauled how the system approaches innovation, according to Business Insider. Four things to know about changes Ms. Anderson has made since joining Banner: 1. Prior to Ms. Anderson joining the health system, its innovation efforts were divided by insurance type. Ms. Anderson reorga- nized the department into three distinct teams, including the internal innovation lab, a venture group and an organizational culture and IT alignment team. 2. Ms. Anderson worked with team mem- bers in the internal lab and venture arm to identify issues and develop customer insights. As a result, the team developed a chatbot to alert individuals in the emer- gency room of wait times throughout their stay. 3. Banner gave Ms. Anderson and the in- novation department a mandate to pursue revenue-generating projects, and she de- cided the innovation team would pay for the pilot stage of a new technology from its existing budget and then request addi- tional funding if it proved successful. is move ensured the financial aspect of her project didn't become a sticking point to business-driving innovation. 4. Four things to know: 1. Kaiser Permanente initially partnered with Best Buy Health in October 2019 to launch a pilot program leveraging technology and support services through the remote monitoring tool called Lively Mobile Plus among employees. 2. Lively Mobile Plus is a two-way communication device that provides at-home or mobile care. users can press a button to connect with individuals trained to triage emergency and nonemergency situations and help seniors in instances ranging from car trouble, being locked out of their home or experiencing a medical emergency. 3. The technology also includes an emergency response system that rapidly connects users to relevant Kaiser Permanente online resources and directions to nearby healthcare provider facilities. It also includes a co-branded smart- phone app to notify family, friends and caregivers about the user's safety and access to care. 4. On Oct. 5, the partners rolled Lively Mobile Plus out to all Kaiser Permanente Medicare members as part of its Medicare Affinity Program, which provides non-medical products and services to help older adults live independently at home. n Providence combines 9 investments to launch new healthcare tech consulting company: 4 things to know By Katie Adams R enton, Wash.-based Providence combined nine of its health technology investments into one comprehensive digital health portfolio called Tegria, the health system announced Oct. 12. Four things to know about the company: 1. Tegria's aim is to advance technological, clinical and operational improve- ments in healthcare delivery. 2. The company is based in Seattle and has offices and employees throughout the U.S. and Canada. It involves about 2,500 strategists, scientists, technology experts and service providers. 3. Providence combined four of its healthcare consulting and technology in- vestments, three of its revenue cycle management investments and two of its software investments to form Tegria. 4. The company will offer other healthcare organizations technology consult- ing, tools to improve revenue cycle management and digital health devices and software. n
