56 JOINT VENTURES Texas hospital opens $13M+ joint-venture ASC By Angie Stewart S an Antonio-based Methodist Hospital opened a 15,744-square-foot ASC in Boerne, Texas, accord- ing to an Aug. 10 announcement. Five things to know: 1. The $13.1 million Methodist Surgery Center-Boerne offers same-day surgical care, as well as diagnostic and preventive procedures. 2. The ASC is a joint venture between private-practice physicians and MHS Surgery Centers, an affiliate of San Antonio-based Methodist Healthcare System. 3. It features two dedicated gastroenterology treatment rooms, as well as three operating rooms. 4. Surgeons at the center specialize in colorectal, ortho- pedic, neuro-spine and ophthalmology procedures. 5. The medical office building will occupy more than 28,000 square feet in Murfreesboro, Tenn. 2. The first floor of the two-story building will feature a surgery center. The facility will also be equipped with two operating rooms. 3. Batten | Shaw is currently working on demolition and site preparation for the project. 4. What you should know: 1. On July 6, town officials approved plans to redevelop a 170-acre site where the medical center would occupy up to 53 acres. 2. The two-story, 195,000-square-foot medical and surgery center will be built to the east of a proposed ice rink complex. 3. Bones and Guts, which is a group of physicians and other investors, are developing the medical center. Orthopedic surgeon Brian McGrath, MD, is the group's lead partner. 4. Practices affiliated with UBMD Physicians' Group and Kaleida Health, both based in Buffalo, N.Y., plan to occupy the medical and surgery center. 5. UBMD Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine will be the facil- ity's main tenant, relocating from its current Amherst location. What you should know:; 1. The practice is seeking approval to construct a 43,700-square-foot medical campus. The project will con- tain a medical clinic, physical therapy space and radiology space on the first floor of the facility and an ASC with three operating rooms on the second floor. 2. The Village of Bourbonnais will contribute $750,000 to the project through a Tax Increment Financing Fund district. 3. Oak will pay the financing back through its taxes. n
