A management group of Dallas-based Steward Health Care physicians led by the company's CEO and founder acquired a controlling interest of Steward from Cerberus Capital Management, a private equity firm. St. Joseph Hospital Orange (Calif.) has sold one of its medical office buildings to IRA Capital, a California-based private equity firm. East Ohio Hospital LLC, a real estate investment fund, has acquired East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry and plans to reopen the facility later this year. Hudson Regional Hospital in Secaucus, N.J., has reached an agreement to purchase and operate Bayonne (N.J.) Medical Center and Hoboken (N.J.) University Medical Center. Southfield, Mich.-based Beaumont Health announced May 29 that it is calling off a proposed merger with Akron, Ohio-based Summa Health. Advocate Trinity Hospital, Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, South Shore Hospital and St. Bernard Hospital, all in Chicago, are ending their plans to merge aer government funding for the $1.1 billion project fell through.
