40 INNOVATION Mount Sinai, Google Nest partner for COVID-19 patient monitoring By Laura Dyrda N ew York City-based Mount Sinai has part- nered with Google Nest to install video and audio technologies for monitoring critically ill COVID-19 patients. Four things to know: 1. The nurses working with COVID-19 patients are using more than 100 Nest cameras at hospitals systemwide to monitor and communicate with patients. The Nest cameras allow healthcare workers to livestream feed from the inpatient units and communicate directly with patients. 2. Mount Sinai piloted the console in hospitals in April when the virus reached its peak in New York City and found that the technology cut down the number of times care providers needed to enter patient rooms, which conserves personal protective equipment and made care more efficient. 3. The Google Nest team worked with Mount Sinai's team on nights and weekends to develop the technol- ogy. 4. In early May, Mount Sinai also reported it has part- nered with London-based Babylon Health to use its ar- tificial intelligence-powered app for digital health. The capabilities through the app include a symptom check- er, live chat with Babylon staff and access to virtual phy- sician consultations.n Boston Children's Hospital chief innovation officer helps build coronavirus tracking website By Mackenzie Garrity B oston Children's Hospital Chief In- novation Officer and epidemiologist John Brownstein, MD, collaborated with volunteers to develop a coronavirus tracking website, according to CNBC. Dr. Brownstein was contacted by Prem Ra- maswami, head of product at Alphabet's Sidewalk Labs. Aer feeling sick, Mr. Ra- maswami was denied a COVID-19 test be- cause he had not been in contact with some- one who tested positive. is motivated him to develop a tracking website. e two were inspired by a website mon- itoring the spread of influenza, known as "flunearyou." Dr. Brownstein and Mr. Ra- maswami decided to co-develop the under- lying technology for COVID-19 monitoring. Aer consulting with other volunteers from Apple, Amazon, Alphabet and other tech companies, they were able to launch covid- nearyou.com. Dr. Brownstein is asking 100,000 people to use the website so the website can fill gaps in reporting. If a person using the website is healthy, they will be asked to fill out their gender, age, ZIP code and if they received the flu vaccine. For people feeling sick, they will be asked to describe their symptoms. e team hopes to add more information about COVID-19 as medical professionals release more data. Dr. Brownstein also con- firmed that the data from the website will be shared with public health groups and not technology companies. n S P E C I A L G U E S T K E Y N O T E S John Bolton National Security Advisor (2018- 2019); U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations (2005-2006); Senior Adviser, Rhone Group Howard Dean MD, Former Chairman, Democratic National Committee and Former Governor of Vermont Nikki Haley Former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N.
