Four things to know: 1. Valify's platform allows provider organizations to iden- tify, benchmark and manage savings in more than 1,000 purchased services categories, according to the company's website. 2. HCA, a 184-hospital system, said it will use Valify's analyt- ics and benchmarking tools to identify and pursue oppor- tunities to reduce the cost of providing healthcare services. 3. HCA will also help Valify expand its platform. "We look forward to working with the Valify team to further devel- op their offerings to benefit all of their clients," HCA Ex- ecutive Vice President and CFO Bill Rutherford said in a news release. 4. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. n FBI raids Pennsylvania hospital By Ayla Ellison Federal investigators raided the now-shuttered Ellwood (Pa.) City Medical Center on Jan. 30. The FBI hasn't provided details about the raid. A spokes- person for the agency's Pittsburgh office told the Ellwood City Ledger that the FBI was "conducting law enforcement activity" at the hospital, but officials would not comment on what they were looking for. Ellwood City Medical Center's owner, Americore Health, closed the hospital Dec. 10 and filed Chapter 11 bank- ruptcy a few weeks later. The hospital and Americore have been the subject of federal and state investigations for more than a year, according to the Ellwood City Ledger. The investigations stem from financial issues. Last year, the hospital delayed payroll several times and vendors reported non-payment. The Pennsylvania Attorney Gen- eral's Office recently filed a lawsuit against Americore, alleging the company failed to meet requirements im- posed when it took over the Ellwood City Medical Center. Those requirements include keeping the hospital open for 10 years. n
