38 JOINT VENTURES 5 insights into private practice physicians By Eric Oliver A s private practice physicians continue to face con- stant threats of consolidation, PatientPop surveyed 346 healthcare providers to collect their thoughts on a number of topics integral to their practice, according to the PatientPop 2020 Practice Growth Report. Here are five insights from the report: 1. Approximately 72.7 percent of providers are satisfied with their level of success. 2. Providers identified six characteristics that were impor- tant to their success: • Delivering a top in-person patient experience: 67.2 percent • Communicating with patients digitally: 34.9 percent • Having strong online reviews: 30.5 percent • Ranking high in search results: 26.7 percent • Having a good website: 22.3 percent • Letting patients request appointments online: 20.8 percent 3. Providers who said patient reviews were important had four characteristics: • 29.9 percent were more likely to report strong revenues • 28.8 percent were more likely to report effective patient communication • 22.4 percent were more likely to report strong mar- ket visibility • 18.5 percent were more likely to report a strong of- fice workflow 4. Twenty-five percent of providers do not take steps to address their online reputation. 5. Providers identified seven frustrations: • Managing insurance tasks: 48.7 percent • Collecting reimbursement/patient pay: 33.1 percent • No-shows and cancellations: 31.4 percent • Complying with regulations: 31.4 percent • EHR usability: 23.8 percent • Managing staff: 20.2 percent • Acquiring new patients: 15.3 percent n Kansas hospital buys ASC, orthopedic practice By Rachel Popa M ercy Hospital has purchased Stateline Surgery Center, Orthopaedic Specialists of the Four States and Pre- miere Surgical Institute, according to local TV news station KOAM News Now. Tracy Godfrey, Mercy Joplin clinic director, told KOAM that the purchase had been in the works for a few years. Under the owner- ship of Mercy, patients will still be able to use their existing insur- ance plans and continue seeing the same physicians as before. Mercy said it could expand services at the facilities down the line. n Hoag expands into Los Angeles County with surgery center partnership By Eric Oliver H oag Orthopedic Institute partnered with Diagnostic and Interventional Surgery Center in Marina Del Rey, Calif., marking the health system's first expansion into Los Angeles County. What you should know: 1. Irvine, Calif.-based Hoag entered into a strategic equity part- nership with the physician owners of the center Feb. 6. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. 2. The center's surgeons already perform a number of orthope- dic procedures at the facility. 3. The center will join Hoag's network of integrated orthopedic and musculoskeletal care practices throughout Southern California. Hoag President and CEO Jennifer Mitzner spoke highly of the partnership, saying, "We are excited about introducing HOI to the Los Angeles market alongside like-minded medical provid- ers who share our entrepreneurial spirit and philosophy of value- based care with exceptional patient experience and high-quality outcomes." n $38.5M Texas ASC to open in spring By Rachel Popa A $38.5 million ASC and medical office building is under construction in Frisco, Texas, according to Medical Con- struction Design. The building is part of a larger, five-floor development. When completed, the ASC will have four operating rooms, two proce- dure rooms and up to 20 pre- and postoperative procedure beds. The project is expected to be completed in May. n
