10 ORTHOPEDICS Dr. Robert Madlinger to return to New Jersey hospital after military service in Afghanistan By Alan Condon R obert Madlinger, MD, recently completed military ser- vice as the sole orthopedic trauma surgeon at the U.S. Army's Forward Operating Base in Jalalabad, Afghani- stan, reports NorthJersey.com. Dr. Madlinger, chief of trauma and surgical critical care at St. Joseph's University Medical Center in Paterson, N.J., has been operating at the base since July. He joined the Army Medical Reserves in September 2011, a few months after he became employed at St. Joseph's. Dr. Madlinger is also director of the general surgery residen- cy program for 18 residents at the hospital. PE firm Varsity Healthcare Partners backs OCP. 2. Aspen Surgical Products acquired orthopedic product provider Beaty Marketing & Sales to expand its surgi- cal portfolio. Owned by Audax Private Equity, ASP provides surgical and patient safety disposable products to hospitals and ASCs. 3. CrossRoads Extremity Systems, backed by PE company Healthpoint Capital, ac- quired four orthopedic implant product lines from Surgical Frontiers. 4. New York-based PE firm Kohlberg & Company invested in Greenwich, Conn.-based Orthopaedic Neurosurgery Specialists, a three-location multispe- cialty group. 5. Cincinnati-based Beacon Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine launched a national management services organization in partnership with PE firm Revelstoke Capital Partners. 6. Cora Physical erapy, a portfolio company of private-equity firm Gryphon Investors, acquired Rockford, Ill.-based Orthopedic and Sports erapy Institute, expanding its portfolio by six practices. 7. New York-based PE firm Kohlberg & Company invested in Greenwich, Conn.-based Orthopaedic Neurosurgery Specialists, a three-location multispe- cialty group. 8. Linden Capital Partners acquired Collagen Matrix. e company's col- lagen products can be used in several specialties including the device sectors of neurosurgery, orthopedics, spine and sports medicine. 9. LCP also acquired Avalign Technolo- gies, a Bannockburn, Ill.-based provider of implants, specialty surgical instru- ments, cutting tools and cases and trays for orthopedics and acute care. 10. PE-backed medical manufacturer Medin Technologies acquired orthopedic implant company Advantage Manufac- turing Technologies. Medin acquired the company through its wholly owned subsidiary, AMT Medical. 11. European PE firm Nordic Capital acquired majority holding in Orchid Orthopedic Solutions from Altor Fund III for an undisclosed sum. n
