Health Media collected more than 12,500 survey responses, including 5,308 with salary information. What you should know: 1. The hospital's surgeons will begin performing surgeries at Bellevue Woman's Center and Ellis Hospital, both in Schenectady, in 2020. 2. Surgery center employees had a suspicion that the surgery center would close, but no one thought it would be in 2020. 3. Ellis Medicine will reallocate the staff but it's unclear how many staff members the hospitals can accommodate. n 1st foot and ankle surgery performed at Illinois pain clinic By Alan Condon Zehra Hyderi, DPM, completed the first foot and ankle surgery Barrington (Ill.) Pain & Spine Institute Dec. 20. Three things to know: 1. BPSI surgeons and physicians has performed thousands of interventional pain and spine procedures since it opened in 2012. 2. The practice began offering spine surgery in 2014 and treats a range of disor- ders including degenerative scoliosis, spinal stenosis, facet joint syndrome and osteoarthritis. 3. John Prunskis, MD, and Terri Dallas-Prunskis, MD, are medical directors at BPSI. n What percentage of physicians are hospital employed? 4 salary, employment statistics By Rachel Popa A verage compensation is increas- ing for physicians, according to a report from physician recruit- ment resource LocumTenens.com. The survey was conducted in August of 2019, representing the annual salaries of physicians who practice full time in a permanent position. Salary data includes bonuses. Four things to know: 1. The average salary for physicians in 2018 was $363,924, up from 2017's number of $324,090. 2. Forty percent of physicians who re- sponded to the survey said they were employed by a hospital. 3. Twenty percent of physicians said they were employed by a group practice. 4. According to the survey, the aver- age physician salary has risen 16.5 percent since 2015. n
