Four things to know: 1. e joint venture will expand UHS' ambulatory capabilities. e King of Prussia, Pa.-based health system has 40 outpatient facilities and ambulatory access points cur- rently and the partnership will accelerate expansion. 2. Regent Surgical Health owns or oper- ates 26 ASCs, with 21 being hospital joint ventures and 14 including total joint replace- ments. It has 600 credentialed surgeons who perform 70,000 procedures each year. 3. Together, Regent and UHS aim to develop a "transformative ambulatory strategy" that will deliver both quality care and bottom-line results. 4. Regent will bring its best practices for staff recruitment and retention, training, physi- cian recruitment and surgeon and patient satisfaction to the partnership. e company also has experience in clinical oversight, payer contracting, supply chain, revenue cycle, case costing and marketing. "Our operating model has realized material increase in both patient and surgeon satisfaction scores, due in large part to improved efficiency of opera- tions and clinical focus." n ASC market to hit $55B by 2025: 4 things to know about industry growth By Rachel Popa A n aging population, increased surgical volume and advances in technology are some of the contributing factors driving growth in the ASC market, according to a report from business intelligence company Research and Markets. Four growth details to know: 1. The ASC market is projected to be worth be- tween $52 billion and $55 billion by 2025. 2. Physicians at ASCs perform more than half of all outpatient procedures, with volume expected to increase 15 percent by 2028. More growth is expected in ASC settings than hospital outpa- tient departments. 3. The specialty that's projected to see the great- est procedure volume growth is spine, with a projected growth of 10 percent through 2022. 4. Patient consumerism will play a role in ASC procedure volume growth, with both payers and patients favoring the low-cost setting of an ASC over a hospital. n ASC, physician practice deals surge in Q3 with 62 recorded: 5 things to know By Angie Stewart ASC transactions surged in the third quarter of 2019, according to new research from Hammond Hanlon Camp. Five insights: 1. There were 62 ASC and physician practice management transac- tions in the third quarter, compared with 37 in the second quarter of 2019. 2. The ASC and physician practice sector remains characterized by mergers and acquisitions involving just one or two facilities, but a number of established networks are growing. 3. However, year-to-date M&A activity for physician practices and ASCs was down about 12 percent compared to the same time last year. "With a push toward outpatient procedures and new CMS reim- bursement rates, ASCs will continue to be an attractive sector for investment and consolidation," H2C said. 4. Overall, healthcare M&A increased 12 percent from the second quarter and outpaced activity in the third quarter of 2018 by 41 percent. 5. This year, there were 214 healthcare transactions recorded in the third quarter, up from 191 in the second quarter. Health IT transac- tions, combined with strong volume for physician practices and ASCs, helped drive growth. n
