49 PRACTICE MANAGEMENT THOUGHT LEADERSHIP Hospital & health system transactions McLaren Health Care, a 14-hospital system in Grand Blanc, Mich., has signed a letter of intent to acquire St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee, Ohio. Lafayette (La.) General Health and Jennings (La.) American Legion Hospital have signed a letter of intent to merge. Brentwood, Tenn.-based Quorum Health has received a nonbinding proposal letter from KKR & Co., a New York City-based private equity firm. Mendocino Coast District Hospital directors approved an agreement that would allow Roseville, Calif.-based Adventist Health to operate the Fort Bragg, Calif.-based hospital for the next 30 years. Effective March 1, 2020, Baylor Scott & White Health will no longer operate a 237 licensed-bed hospital in Carrollton, Texas. State officials approved Nov. 20 the merger of Butler (Pa.) Health System and Clarion (Pa.) Healthcare System. Texas Health Resources, Methodist Health System and LHC Group, a home healthcare provider in Lafayette, La., together purchased an Arlington, Texas-based home health company. An outright sale of East Jefferson General Hospital has emerged as the favored option in partnership discussions between New Orleans-based LCMC Health and the Metairie, La.-based public hospital. Indianapolis-based Community Health Network has acquired addiction treatment provider Fairbanks. Pittsburgh-based UPMC is expanding operations in Ireland with the acquisition of its second hospital. A division of Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare sold a 65-bed long- term acute care hospital to a Dallas-based specialty hospital operator. Alexander City, Ala.-based Russell Medical will become part of the Birmingham, Ala.-based UAB Health System. e University of Louisville (Ky.) completed its acquisition of KentuckyOne Health from Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health on Nov. 1. Citing increased pressures and competition, Rome, Ga.-based Floyd Health System plans to join Charlotte-based Atrium Health by the end of 2020. Medical Properties Trust, a real estate investment firm, will purchase the real estate assets of 10 acute care hospitals from Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Health for $700 million. King of Prussia, Pa.-based Universal Health Services, in partnership with Westchester, Ill.-based Regent Surgical Health, will build out a network of ambulatory surgery centers across the U.S. In an effort to have greater financial stability, Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake, Minn., will join Duluth, Minn.-based Essentia Health. Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems has entered into a definitive agreement to sell three Virginia hospitals to Cincinnati-based Bon Secours Mercy Health.
