28 JOINT VENTURES Stormont Vail Health buys minority stake in Kansas surgical hospital — 3 insights By Eric Oliver S tormont Vail Health purchased a 49 percent ownership stake in Manhattan (Kan.) Surgical Hospital and will ex- pand the hospital's surgical and oncology programs, The Mercury reports. What you should know: 1. As a result, Topeka, Kan.-based Stormont Vail Health will receive three seats on the surgical hospital's board. 2. The surgical hospital was formed by local physicians in 2001. It remained independently owned and operated until the deal closed Oct. 1. The hospital has 13 inpatient rooms, six operating rooms, four endoscopy suites and a full-service pain clinic. 3. The hospital offers ENT, gastroenterology, general surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, plastic sur- gery, podiatry and urology services. n Baptist Health to expand ASC capacity — 5 insights By Eric Oliver B aptist Health in Miami Beach, Fla., received city approval to expand the services offered at its ASC, RE: Miami Beach reports. What you should know: 1. Baptist has provided gastroenterology services in the ASC since it opened in July 2018. 2. The ASC will now add ophthalmology, spine, gy- necological and orthopedic services. 3. The health system is adding the services in re- sponse to community demand. 4. The health system has seen 55 percent of its pa- tients come from Miami Beach, with the rest mostly consisting of tourists using the building's urgent care. 5. The expansion will require no physical modifica- tions to the facility. n PE-backed EyeSouth Partners teams up with Eye Center of North Florida — 4 insights By Eric Oliver M anagement services organization EyeSouth Partners entered into a partnership with Panama City-based Eye Center of North Florida, its second such partnership in Florida. What you should know: 1. The previously independent practice has six oph- thalmologists and two optometrists. 2. The practice also features an ASC. 3. Anthony Aker, OD, said the group entered into the partnership so they could "continue to provide qual- ity care for decades to come, ensuring our employ- ees, patients and the community are taken care of over the long run." 4. Eye Center of North Florida will retain its branding, and no changes will be made to its staff, physicians or locations. n Physician-managed healthcare system opens spine ASC in New Jersey By Rachel Popa A ltair Health, a health system managed by physicians, has opened a new spine surgery center in Florham Park, N.J., according to Centraljersey.com. Physicians at the 16,000-square-foot center also will perform pain management procedures. The ASC features pre- and postoperative recovery areas and operating rooms with ad- vanced surgical equipment. "At Altair Health Surgery Center, patients are treated by a team of hand-picked professionals who specialize in spine care," said Chris Valerian, DO, COO of Altair Health. "Every practitio- ner is a spine specialist, not a generalist. Highly trained nurse practitioners and a care navigator support patients every step of the way … from preop through postop recovery and after care. " n
