Physicians' top
investing mistakes
By Rachel Popa
M
edscape outlined the top investing mistakes physicians
make and how they can avoid them.
ree things to know:
1. Stocks. Whether it's day-trading, buying high and selling low or
investing in penny stocks, physicians can avoid losing money by
researching a company's financials before investing.
2. Business startups. Physicians surveyed revealed they had invest-
ed in business startups that eventually failed, such as green energy
companies, restaurants and medical businesses. To avoid negative
effects of these bad investments, physicians should refrain from
investing large sums of money in businesses up front and do their
homework before investing.
3. Rental properties. Even though buying a property and renting
it out sounds like a safe and appealing investment, dealing with
flaky, destructive tenants and decreasing property values can
make real estate a bad investment. Before investing, physicians
should evaluate whether they have the time or resources to look
aer tenants.

Oklahoma — 3 details
By Rachel Popa
T
ulsa (Okla.) ER and Hospital, a physician-
owned micro-hospital, opened its doors to
patients July 29, according to local news sta-
tion ABC 8 Tulsa.
Three details to know:
1. Tulsa ER and Hospital is a privately owned hos-
pital and will not accept Medicare or Medicaid. It
has applied to be in-network with major insurance
companies. At this time, the hospital does not have
any in-network contracts but Medical Director Mark
Blubaugh, DO, told ABC 8 that the hospital plans
to charge in-network rates for patients with private
insurance.
2. Tulsa ER and Hospital is half the size of a tradition-
al hospital, but still offers patients the same treat-
ment and equipment.
3. The hospital plans to post prices for procedures
online and will set a flat fee for services such as X-
rays, ultrasounds and CT scans.
