Whether it's day-trading, buying high and selling low or investing in penny stocks, physicians can avoid losing money by researching a company's financials before investing. 2. Business startups. Physicians surveyed revealed they had invest- ed in business startups that eventually failed, such as green energy companies, restaurants and medical businesses. To avoid negative effects of these bad investments, physicians should refrain from investing large sums of money in businesses up front and do their homework before investing. 3. Rental properties. Even though buying a property and renting it out sounds like a safe and appealing investment, dealing with flaky, destructive tenants and decreasing property values can make real estate a bad investment. Physician-owned micro- hospital to open in Oklahoma — 3 details By Rachel Popa T ulsa (Okla.) ER and Hospital, a physician- owned micro-hospital, opened its doors to patients July 29, according to local news sta- tion ABC 8 Tulsa. Three details to know: 1. Tulsa ER and Hospital is a privately owned hos- pital and will not accept Medicare or Medicaid. It has applied to be in-network with major insurance companies. At this time, the hospital does not have any in-network contracts but Medical Director Mark Blubaugh, DO, told ABC 8 that the hospital plans to charge in-network rates for patients with private insurance. 2. Tulsa ER and Hospital is half the size of a tradition- al hospital, but still offers patients the same treat- ment and equipment. 3. The hospital plans to post prices for procedures online and will set a flat fee for services such as X- rays, ultrasounds and CT scans. n
