40 and hospice. e 25-bed critical access hospital provides care to resi- dents of six rural counties in two states, covering around 3,500 square miles. Tahoe Forest Hospital has a partnership with UC Davis School of Medicine to allow third- and fih-year medical students to train with its local primary care physicians. UC Davis recognized Tahoe Forest as a Rural Center of Excellence and in 2017 Tahoe Forest Health Sys- tem earned the Own the Bone Star Performer Designation from the American Orthopaedic Association. Teton Valley Hospital (Driggs, Idaho). Originally opened in 1939 as a four-bed hospital, Teton Valley Hospital has evolved into a 13- bed critical access hospital and level 4 trauma center. e health sys- tem now includes three clinics in addition to the hospital. In 2016, the hospital reported 162 hospitalizations, 435 surgeries and 1,880 emergency room visits. Tomah (Wis.) Memorial Hospital. Tomah Memorial Hospital opened as a 29-bed institution in 1952 and has undergone several major updates since then. In 2017, the hospital broke ground on a $66 million, three-story facility that is expected to open in October. e Chartis Center for Rural Health and National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health recognized Tomah Memorial Hospital for overall excellence in outcomes and patient experience with the 2018 Performance Leadership Award. CMS gave the hospital a five- star rating for patient experiences in June 2018. University Hospitals Geneva (Ohio) Medical Center. University Hospitals Geneva Medical Center is a 25-bed critical access hospital with 100 physi- cians and nurses that focus on more than 25 different specialties. e hospital achieved the Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders certification and provides emergency services to communities in a 20-plus mile radius. In May 2017, University Hospitals Geneva Medical Center opened a Seidman Cancer Center, linking it to a network of facilities that provides care to more than 10,000 patients per year. UT Health Quitman (Texas). UT Health Quitman is a 25-bed critical access hospital that joined Tyler, Texas-based UT Health system in 2018. e new partnership will allow the hospital increased access to UT's health centers, technology and research. e health system also has a regional rehabilitation and fitness network as well as home health coverage and a regional trauma and emergency system. e hospital currently has 17 physicians and clinical care providers dedicated to family medicine, cardiology, general surgery and orthopedics. UCHealth Pikes Peak Regional Hospital (Woodland Park, Colo.). Pikes Peak Regional Hospital joined Denver-based UCHealth in April 2018, an or- ganization it had previously partnered with. e affiliation expanded access for Pikes Peak to the academic health system's resources for patients, staff and medical providers. e 15-bed critical access hospital included about 120 employees in 2018 and aims to continue growing with its community. Wabash General Hospital (Mount Carmel, Ill.). e history of Wabash General Hospital dates back to 1951, and it has since grown into a 25-bed critical access hospital including orthopedic and sports medicine clinics in multiple locations. In 2016, the hospital earned the acute stroke ready hospi- tal designation from the Illinois Department of Public Health, and it earned the Medicare Beneficiary Quality Improvement Product Quality Award as an HCAHPS Star Rating Performer. It also received the Excellence in Inno- vation Award for its joint camp in 2018. Waldo County General Hospital (Belfast, Maine). In 2017, Waldo County General Hospital reported 1,486 inpatient admissions, 122,251 outpatient visits and 15,576 emergency department visits. e hospital also earned Gold-level recognition from the Maine Tobacco-Free Hospital Network Gold Star Standards of Excellence Program in 2017 and earned recognition as a Top Rural Hospital in 2018 by e Leapfrog Group. Wallowa Memorial Hospital (Enterprise, Ore.). Wallowa Memorial Hos- pital is a 25-bed critical access hospital built in 2007. e facility is a level 4 trauma center on a medical campus that includes a wellness center, medical group and a senior living facility. e hospital has more than 150 employees and serves as a Blue Zones Project Approved Worksite. In 2018, the National Rural Health Association recognized Wallowa Memorial Hospital among the Top 20 Critical Access Hospitals in the nation. West River Regional Medical Center (Hettinger, N.D.). West River Re- gional Medical Center is part of Hettinger-based West River Health Services, which includes a 15-physician group practice that serves a population of 20,000 people spanning 20,000 square miles. e hospital has 20 acute care beds and two ICU beds as well as four outpatient rooms and a 24-hour emer- gency room. In 2018, the National Rural Health Association recognized West River Regional Medical Center among the Top 20 Critical Access Hospitals in the nation. Whitman Hospital and Medical Center (Colfax, Wash.). Whitman Hospi- tal and Medical Center has served the Colfax, Wash., region for more than 125 years. e hospital completed construction of a new facility in 2009 and earned recognition as a Top 20 Critical Access Hospital by the National Rural Health Association in 2013 and 2014. e Chartis Center for Rural Health/ iVantage Health Analytics and the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health honored Whitman Hospital for performance leadership in quality, outcomes and the patient experience in 2017. York (Maine) Hospital. York Hospital opened as a 10-room facility in 1906 and has since grown into a multi-story healthcare facility with a heart health institute and urgent care services. Its most recent renovations added a sur- gery center and expanded operating room space as well as private recovery rooms.
