TRANSFORM VERTEBRAL COMPRESSION FRACTURE CARE WITH STREAMLINED SOLUTIONS How you treat vertebral compression fractures (VCFs) can affect your patients, and your facility's financial health. We've worked together with physicians, treatment centers, and patients to build 20 years of balloon kyphoplasty experience and a full range of supporting materials to help you transform the burden of VCFs. Reach out to your local Medtronic representative, and visit our booth at the 2019 Becker's Future of Spine Meeting and learn how our Balloon Kyphoplasty Essentials™ kit — one of our streamlined solutions — can help your practice deliver quality-and value-driven care. We've treated more than 1.6 million VCFs 1 worldwide. And we're not done yet. Balloon kyphoplasty (BKP) is a minimally invasive treatment that can repair spinal fractures caused by osteoporosis (low bone density), cancer, or non-cancerous tumors. Although the complication rate for balloon kyphoplasty is low, as with most surgical procedures, serious adverse events, some of which can be fatal, can occur, including heart attack, cardiac arrest (heart stops beating), stroke, and embolism (blood, fat, or cement that migrates to the lungs or heart). Other risks include infection; leakage of bone cement into the muscle and tissue surrounding the spinal cord, and nerve injury that can, in rare instances, cause paralysis; leakage of bone cement into the blood vessels resulting in damage to the blood vessels, lungs, and/or heart. 1.
