Fourth quarter sales increased 9.4 percent to $3.8 billion. e breakdown of sales across business lines include: • Orthopedics: 5.4 percent increase to hit $1.4 billion • Medsurg: 8.9 percent increase to hit $1.7 billion • Spine: 19.5 percent increase to hit $700 million 2. e breakdown of full year business line sales include: • Orthopedics: 5.9 percent increase to hit $5 billion • Medsurg: 8.8 percent increase to hit $6 billion • Spine: 18 percent increase to hit $2.6 billion "Our multi-year momentum reflects the strength of our diversified model, progress on globalization and outstanding people and culture," said CEO Kevin Lobo. "We are well positioned to deliver for our customers, employees and shareholders in 2019 and be- yond." 3. U.S. sales increased 10.1 percent in the fourth quarter and 8.7 percent for the full year. International sales were up 7.3 percent for the fourth quarter and 10.9 percent for the full year. 4. Within the orthopedics line, knee and trauma sales drove growth. Knee sales were up 6.6 percent to $1.7 billion, while trauma and extremities sales were up 6.9 percent to $1.5 billion. Hip sales increased 2.5 percent to $1.3 billion. 5. For 2019, the company expects organic net sales to grow 6.5 percent to 7.5 percent and adjusted net earnings per share to hit $8.00 to $8.20. n DePuy Synthes reports 1.9% drop in sales for 2018: 5 things to know By Laura Dyrda J ohnson & Johnson reported fourth quarter and full-year results for DePuy Synthes, its orthopedics division. Five things to know: 1. In the fourth quarter, DePuy Synthes reported a 1 percent decrease in sales to $2.2 billion. 2. Fourth quarter hip sales reached $365 million, flat from the same period last year. Knee sales dropped 1.3 percent to $392 million, while trauma remained flat at $674 million. Spine and other sales dropped 2.9 percent to $831 million. 3. For the full year, DePuy Synthes sales dropped 1.9 per- cent to $8.8 billion. 4. 2018 full-year breakdown of orthopedic sales includes: • Hips: $1.4 billion (1.7 percent increase) • Knees: $1.5 billion (1.4 percent decrease) • Trauma: $2.7 billion (3.2 percent increase) • Spine and other: $3.2 billion (7.3 percent decrease) 5. In 2018, the company reported strong market demand for the ACTIS stem. n Spine surgery robots market to reach $320M by 2026 — Who holds 80% of the market? The demand for minimally invasive procedures will boost and dominate the spine surgery robots market. Increasing demand from patients for minimally invasive surgeries and highly accurate and safe procedures are the key factors driving demand in this segment. 4. North America is anticipated to lead the market be- cause of the high demand for spine surgery robots in the U.S. However, the market will need to overcome the limited number of skilled professionals and surgeons in developing economies. 5. Zimmer Biomet and Mazor Robotics hold nearly 80 percent of the market share. n
