54 Hospital and Health System Transactions A newly formed nonprofit run by Bloomfield, N.J.-based Community Healthcare Associ- ates completed its purchase of Salem, N.J.- based Memorial Hospital of Salem County from Community Health Systems, which is based in Franklin, Tenn. Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Health and Houston-based Memorial Hermann Health System have decided to discontinue merger discussions roughly four months aer signing a letter of intent to combine their organizations. Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initia- tives and San Francisco-based Dignity Health completed a deal to combine their systems. Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare now owns 185 hospitals aer completing its purchase of Mission Health, a six-hospital system based in Asheville, N.C. Somerset (Pa.) Hospital will officially become UPMC Somerset Feb. 1, seven months aer the potential merger was announced. Pipeline Health, a privately held hospita management company based in Los Angeles, has acquired Arlington-based Texas Health Resources' majority stake in 22 freestanding emergency rooms. Charleston-based Medical University of South Carolina is seeking to buy four rural hospitals from Community Health Systems, based in Franklin, Tenn., for $137 million. Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare completed the sale of its three remaining Chicago-area hospitals: Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago; Westlake Hospital in Melrose Park, Ill.; and West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, Ill. Tenet sold the hospitals to Pipeline Health, a privately held hos- pital management company based in Los Angeles. Lebanon, N.H. Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health and GraniteOne Health in Manchester, N.H., signed a letter of intent to merge their organizations. Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.H., has signed a letter of intent to merge with Nash- ville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare. Milwaukee-based Advocate Aurora Health has signed an agreement to take full ownership over Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette, Wis., which will be renamed Aurora Medical Center - Bay Area. Berger Health System, a single-hospital system based in Circleville, Ohio, will become Ohio- Health's 12th member hospital this spring. Ripley, W. Va.-based Jackson General Hospi- tal will join Morgantown-based West Virginia University Health System, pending approval from the West Virginia Health Care Authority. Delano (Calif.) Regional Medical Cen- ter signed an agreement to join Roseville, Calif.-based Adventist Health. e deal needs approval from the FTC and the California attorney general. Quorum Health entered into a definitive agree- ment to sell Scenic Mountain Medical Center in Big Spring, Texas, the Brentwood, Tenn.-based hospital operator announced Jan. 7. Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Health has merged with Belle Mead, N.J.-based behavioral health provider Carrier Clinic to improve behavioral healthcare — a rare partner- ship between a behavioral health provider and multihospital system. Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach, Fla., and Martin Health System, a three-hospi- tal system based in Stuart, Fla., are now part of the Cleveland Clinic health system. Sanford Health completed its merger with the nationwide senior care services provider Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Soci- ety, the health system announced Jan. 2. Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems completed the sale of Mary Black Health System, a two-hospital system based in Spartanburg, S.C., on Jan. 1. Atlanta-based Northside Hospital and Law- renceville, Ga.-based Gwinnett Health System have received approval from the FTC to merge.
