28 POPULATION HEALTH POPULATION HEALTH 28 CEO/STRATEGY Healthcare organizations will face these 23 risks in 2019, analysis says By Kelly Gooch R evenue cycle issues such as denials management and patient access are among the risk areas for healthcare organizations in 2019, according to an analysis from Crowe, a public accounting, consulting and technology firm. The analysis is based on assessments of nearly 3,000 risks in 2018 for more than 250 hospitals, health systems, physi- cian practices and other healthcare entities. To determine top risk areas, Crowe examined how often a risk was includ- ed in assessments by healthcare entities. Researchers said they also considered each risk's effect on the healthcare entity and how likely the risk was to negatively affect pa- tient care, regulatory compliance and other critical goals. Rather than ranking the risks, Crowe categorized the risks into five groups, although top risks may be relevant to mul- tiple categories. CNBC compiled a list of book recommendations successful leaders and businessmen — including former President Barack Obama, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and several others — made in 2018. Here are five leaders on their top picks for books about business, career and leadership: 1. Mark Cuban — at's What She Said by Joanne Lipman. Mr. Cuban said Ms. Lipman's book provides "amazing insights" to help executives recognize workplace issues, communication chal- lenges and possible solutions, according to CNBC. 2. Arianna Huffington — e Myth of the Nice Girl: Achieving a Career You Love Without Becoming a Person You Hate by Fran Hauser. Ms. Huffington said the book redefined the "outdated notion of what powerful leaders should look like and shows how a culture in which we no longer allow brilliant jerks to dominate the work- place will be better not just for women, but for everyone — and for the bottom line," CNBC reports. 3. Bill Gates — Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup by John Carreyrou. Mr. Gates said the book, which chronicles the rise and fall of blood-testing startup eranos and its founder and former CEO Elizabeth Holmes, offers a number of lessons any company can put to use, from scaling a startup properly to building an appro- priate board of directors who will point out red flags. 4. Barack Obama — e New Geography of Jobs by Enrico Moretti. Despite having read the book roughly six years aer it was initial- ly published in 2012, Mr. Obama said Mr. Moretti's book offers "a timely and smart discussion of how different cities and regions have made a changing economy work for them — and how poli- cymakers can learn from that to li the circumstances of working Americans everywhere." 5. Richard Branson — New Power by Jeremy Heimans and Henry Timms. e billionaire founder of Virgin Group said he favors the book because it provides valuable insight for those who "want to un- derstand how the world is changing, [and] what's really happen- ing and how we can all find our way." Mr. Branson also noted the authors offer an interesting perspective on how business has changed and how leaders can more successfully spread ideas or start a movement. n
