19 ORTHOPEDICS New York ASC partners with payer to deliver region's 1st outpatient hip replacements By Angie Stewart T he Bone and Joint Center of Albany (N.Y.) surgeon Jared Roberts, MD, performed the first outpatient total hip replacement procedures at Albany-based Capital Region Ambulatory Surgery Center. Here are three details: 1. It was the first time total hip replacements were performed outside a hospital in the Capital Region, Saratoga County and northeastern New York state. 2. Schenectady, N.Y.-based MVP Health Care and Capital Region Ambulatory Surgery Center partnered to allow hip, knee and shoulder procedures to be done in the outpatient setting for select MVP patients. 3. MVP Health Care covers more than 700,000 members in New York and Vermont. "This new part- nership with Capital Region Ambulatory Surgery Center for outpatient total hip, knee and shoulder replacement procedures is an excellent example of how providers and insurers together can make a positive impact on the healthcare system and in the lives of those we serve." n Ohio ASC hosts 100th total joint replacement: 4 key notes By Laura Dyrda G reater Dayton (Ohio) Surgery Center surgeons com- pleted the 100th outpatient total joint replacement at the center in October 2018. Here are four things to know: 1. The ASC added total joints in January 2018 and aimed to complete more than 150 procedures by the end of 2018. 2. In 2019, Administrator Todd Evans estimates the program will experience rapid growth. The total joint surgeons at the center are Kevin Paley, MD, Ryan Bauman, MD, Rick Forster, MD, and Paul Nitz, MD. 3. Greater Dayton Surgery Center is a joint venture be- tween physicians and Kettering Health Network. Launched in 2007, the surgery center is accredited by AAAHC and provides ENT, plastic surgery, gastroenterology and pain management services. 4. Centers across the country are adding total joint replace- ments, including Stamford-based Specialty Surgery Center of Connecticut, which launched the state's first total joint replacement program in an ASC in August 2018. n 200+ total joint replacement ASC in New Jersey opens new location: 4 things to know By Laura Dyrda L awrenceville, N.J.-based Mercer County Surgery Center opened a new location that includes advanced technology for the center's multidisciplinary procedures. Here are four things to know: 1. A freestanding surgery center, Mercer County Surgery Center provides outpatient joint replacements, spine surgeries, orthopedics, gastroenterol- ogy, pain management, neurology and breast procedures. e AAAHC- accredited center moved to the new facility, across the street from its old facility, Oct. 1, 2018. 2. e center's surgeons completed its 200th total joint replacement in September 2018, prior to moving to the new location. Surgeons perform both total knee and hip replacements at the center. 3. e ASC's original location was completed as a one-operating room center in 2000 and later expanded to include two ORs and one endos- copy suite. 4. e ASC also participates in the Stop Colon Cancer Now campaign and offers Saturday morning procedures for convenience. n Laser Spine Institute in Oklahoma City shuts its doors By Shayna Korol O klahoma City-based Laser Spine Institute closed Nov. 30, 2018. "Laser Spine Institute is adjusting our foot- print to focus on surgical centers that employ mul- tiple surgeons," said Laser Spine Institute spokes- person Kathleen Donald in a statement to Becker's Spine Review. The practice aims to be a leader in minimally invasive spine care. Surgeons at the Oklahoma City location stopped prac- ticing Oct. 26, 2018, although postsurgical services were still available. Patients were redirected to Laser Spine Institute's facilities in Cincinnati, Scottsdale, Ariz., St. Louis and Tampa, Fla. n
